Ok, so Saturday’s post was quite a rewarding experience. I received great feedback. Good and Bad. That’s awesome!
You know, maybe you should do your own pulse check with your blogs every now and then. It’s probably a good idea. Anyway, as soon as I started getting feedback, I started taking action. This video talks a little about it.
NOTE: I made another video, right after this one which will air on Tuesday.
We are taking Monday off due to a hosting switchover, unless everything is done seemlessly, but I just don’t want to be trying to sort 50 lost comments, etc. Wish me luck. 1st time every going through this. Then later in the week I’ll be transferring most of the domains to namecheap.com. Should be an interesting week.
Anyway, if you are a Nerd, (or if you are, but you think you’re not), then check out this video to see what I’m going to be doing to correct my deficiencies.

lol love the video. You got a few chuckles out of me! I feel sorry for your nose.
That video that you brought up, admit it, is probably one of the best videos James did. Awesome impact! I’m going to rewatch it after this.
Are you using your new video camera? It looks good, but the video itself is small. Don’t know if that is intentional, but it’s just my observation.
I like the fact that you’re a nerd. I consider myself one also. I was one of those people who got straight A’s and 100% on every test. I just love to read, learn and soak it all in.
You’ll do well here. After all, you do have the budweiser frogs helping you out.
Thanks Richard. Yeah…that was a good one. Don’t get me wrong…almost all of James videos rocked. But he had some humdingers in there that sizzled. I’ll continue to study them and keep on improving.
That was still the old camera. It’s like 3 or 4 years old, but I only bought it 6 months ago. It was $55 on ebay. It’s a nice camera for the price. But, yeah, the 320X240 is about all I can get with “decent” quality. This new one is HD, but it doesn’t have the flip out screen to I can see what is getting recorded..
I laughed at the budweiser frogs comment…that’s a good one. never thought of that, but hopefully they’ll be finding a new lounging pad real quick.

Thanks for sharing all of this, Brandon. It’s amazing how much we can find out about what readers are thinking if we just ask them. And, aside from the obvious surface changes, I think it gives people a greater sense of participation and makes them feel valued too. Good luck with the hosting transfer!
.-= Jean Sarauer´s last blog ..6 Things That Get Easier About Blogging if You Just Keep Going =-.
Hey thanks for the comments Jean and already some hiccups are surfacing with the transfer, but the end of tomorrow…hopefully, we’ll be back online.
That’s ok. keeps life exciting.

Hey, Brandon
Big improvement in this video! I could tell you were pumped to get your message out. And thank you for getting the volume lowered on the intro!
I have a tip that might help you be a little more at ease with video, other than just doing more of it. When you look at the camera, don’t see the camera. Try to see someone you are comfortable with, and talk to them. Sometimes that helps me when I am recording video. I still have a long way to go with video myself, but its a process. Your doing well, and improving with amazing speed.
Thanks Gurl. I did drop the volume, thanks for noticing. I may have even dropped it too low.
PS…great idea about visualing a person versus the camera. it is really a problem for me. I’m just going to keep going through James’ and picking up on stuff and try to improve. That’s all I can do is strive to be the best I can .
Thanks,
Brandon
Striving to continually improve our game is probably one of the biggest things we can do as bloggers to “make” it in this field. The volume may have been a little to low, but I was turning up the volume on the comp and couldn’t tell.
You could always picture James there cheering you on while you record..and telling you straight up when you weren’t giving your best.
It is hard to get comfortable on cam for a lot of us. The biggest thing that really helps is practice…that or not giving a damn and just letting it all hang out so to speak. I am not so good at either just yet…but practicing a lot!
Absolutely…
I am so glad people responded back with their honest thoughts. Because then I can go back and work on this site, and myself and make them better. Improve. I hate puffery and verbal lip service for the sake of it.
Anyway, I think the visual of just thinking I’m talking to someone I know well will be a big help.
We’ll see how I progress.
Later,
Brandon
Video looks good and you’re right, James really hit things off when he did videos. He made you want to come back for more because you always knew he had something else going on the next day.
Looking forward to more, as always!
.-= Eric´s last blog ..Changes In Progress… Along With Learning =-.
Thanks Eric.
Baby steps, little at a time. Maybe I’ll document the steps I’m doing to try and improve myself and turn it into a product.
Brandon
Sounds like a great idea Brandon.
That’s what a lot of people would appreciate so they have somewhat of a roadmap of how someone else did things and got to where they are.
If you look more into that let me know if I can do anything to help.
.-= Eric´s last blog ..Changes In Progress… Along With Learning =-.
I never would’ve noticed your nose had been broken! But I totally feel you. I’m super self-conscious – that’s why I don’t have any videos. I keep planning to fix that, but right now my schedule just isn’t allowing that to happen. But I’ve learned that while I’m a strong writer, I’m not the best speaker and I just don’t want to bored the jelly out of people when I can wow them with text instead.
Anyway, I truly thank you for mentioning my post. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I felt like being a little creative when I wrote that, and I’m glad I did – you’d be surprised how far a little creativity will take you!
You’re doing a great job, I didn’t mind the frogs at all.
.-= Kiesha @ We Blog Better´s last blog ..10 Ways to Reduce Blog Bounce Rate – Community Spotlight =-.
Hey Kiesha,
Thanks. My video that will be running Tuesday…is my answer I’ll be posting to that blog post of yours. trying something a little different I guess. you know, stepping out of the comfort zone.
Yeah, my nose…way busted up. And it’s actually bigger in live person that it looks on the camera (for real). My english has always stunk. I could never get the “demonstrating subpredicates” & those stupid lines where you had to break apart a sentence and label each, etc and , basically make your family tree out of parts of a sentence…what a waste of my time.
Anyway, quicker and easier for me to make a video. So, I roll with it.
You’d be great on videos. You can tell just from your “writing personality”.
Have a good one,
Brandon
I also think that it helps a lot to make videos while you’re in a place where you feel relaxed the most.
One small suggestion: If you could improve the audio of your videos a bit, I’d truly appreciate it. Thanks!
.-= Julius´s last blog ..Web Accessibility Benefits Persons with Disabilities and … Who Else? =-.
thanks julius. point well taken and the new HD camera i’m trying to get up and running has an external mic, which, if I can get the video figured out…will probably get a lav mike to hook up to it.
I appreciate you mentioning the audio also. thanks.
Brandon
Hey Brandon,
Looks awesome dude
. I can see how much efforts you are putting in this blog. Great work buddy.
Btw. the quality of video looks good.

thanks Dev,
Stay tuned! wait till you see the video quality…coming soon.
Like the other posters said, you can tell that you were feeling the passion this time around! Very assertive and well-said. I think that sort of passion was the biggest element in what made James’ videos so exciting to watch. You may not think you’re great at video, but this is a step in the right direction. Looking forward to seeing your next video opus.
Thanks Jillian,
I saw a book today I wanted to get at B&N but forgot my wallet out in the car and was too lazy to run out. Figures, huh ?

Brandon,
Your getting the mesage out and that is the importand thing. Look at how many people are watching. You are doing something right here. You can also mix it up and just do video periodically.
There is another You Tube trick that you can engage. I just found out about this. They have a closed captioning option that you can enable, so people can turn on your words if they can’t hear the video, while at work etc… this might make the audience even bigger.

One more thing… what kind of camera are you using for your videos?
