Think like a Child to Improve Your Chances
Do you remember a time when the most exciting time was hiding in a box under the table, or when you ran so fast down a hill you thought your legs were going to fall off?… What happened!
I’ll tell you what happened, you grew up and you became scared of everything; scared of failing, scared of competition and scared of the unknown. You need to think like a child in order to succeed;
- Dreams
Santa Claus, The tooth fairy they all excited and so did your dreams of being an astronaut or a famous ballet dancer. You need to have dreams of making it, it’s the only way you will realise them. Think about it, if you don’t dream of great things how on earth can you make them a reality. You have consumed your self with corrupt people in government, bad debt and impending world wars. Stop it, stop it right now, take a moment to think back to when you were 8 years old dreaming of playing with Micheal Jordon or being a real life super hero, feels good right! Keep that frame of mind.
- Fun
Mud pies, playing ball in the street and shooting your friend with the end of a broom. Fun, waking up early to finally climb that impossible tree in the park it was all fun, laughing all the time. Remember? You need to have fun with your website, inject a little humour into your life and into your writing. Spread that laughter around your readers and they will definitely come back, bringing their friends with them. Life is too short to be serious all the time, even if you have a serious point to make.
- Explore
Do you remember that place at the top of the hill, or that little den in the woods? The place you thought was on the other side of the world, but really was just round the corner. When was the last time you went exploring with your site? Are you stuck in a writing rut? Producing the same old content over and over again, and your traffic is taking a nose dive? Well produce something new, explore different techniques and subjects and relate them all to your market place.
- Friends
Kids can play with anyone. They don’t have to share coffee and talk business for years to become friends. Remember when you would share your cars, marbles or dolls with your parents kids who you have never met before, or the first day at school, sharing the tools in the sand pit. Most website owners don’t make that many friends, but it can be done. Their are millions of sites with millions of friends all waiting for you to play in the sand with them, no coffee, no small talk, just pure honest friendship. Get out into these forums, social networking sites and make friends everywhere you go. The more friends you have the better your following will become.
- Innocent
If the world was run by children, I’m fairly sure we would be without prejudice, war and famine. Be the kind sharing child, offer a helping hand to anyone who needs it, offer help without any thought to yourself. Be truthful in what you are saying and most importantly be truthful with yourself, your readers will respect it.
So what does every think?

So very very true… and not only for bloggers! Everyone should look at the world again the way a child does. In awe!

Seriously man, that’s good shiz. So many times good, interesting bloggers feel like they have to be so stuffy on their sites and it must almost make them sick to be so reserved. I’ve watched guys over the years that start off kicking all form or ass and then they just lose the edge and get boring. I think they forget their roots, or maybe they get too tied up in the hype and are scared their audience will leave them, I dunno.
What I do know, however, is it is a helluva lotta fun to just freaking cut loose and jam on your site! It is harder, actually, to do that on a written blog because of the tendency to go back and “fix” stuff… whereas in a video blog or podcast, there really is not going back.

I don’t know what everyone thinks, but I think this post really reinforces the idea of retaining elements of our child like mentality to help us re-establish those fun times. Fun times that are often forgotten, leaving us with a life that lacks the dreams, fun, exploration, friendships and innocence that we so need!

Absolutely Paul,
Remember the earliest christmas you can or the time your tooth was replaced with a coin, magical times, think like that and nothing much will stop you in your tracks, soon you’ll be running so fast you think your legs are going to fall off
