Our Whole Lives Are Affiliates

OK I recently read a post over at Chris Brogan’s site that talked about affiliates, now as you may or may not know I like to make things very simple in order to understand it better. Every Time you step out of your door you are surrounded by affiliates;

Super Markets are the biggest examples, yes they sell their own branded products but they by and large sell other branded goods which they have not made;

I’m no super affiliate, nor a marketing genius, but for me affiliate teams/programs what ever you call them ARE a fantastic opportunity.

    Oh, James, I’m in love with you now! (hear me out) I liked you before but you are one of those people that do very well on video or film. You should have posting yourself with a video all along! You’re not just The Infopreneur, but, you are an INSPIRATION. Now, if only my American ears can learn your English dialect, (it’s ok, I just keep re-playing it). Thanks for this post. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Apologies to the Mrs. for what may seem out of place—you know how I meant it (hmmm, metaphorically?)

  2. I had to laugh when I read Sheila’s comment about your accent. I hadn’t really noticed it before but then I am from the land down under (Australia – for your international readers). We get so much overseas TV content very few accents are strange to us here. Anyway, I think I am going to have to give videos a go on my blog. – Michael

    Somewhere along the line “affiliate” got to be sort of a dirty word, but by being an affiliate for quality products and marketing them with integrity, we are doing readers a service. Which reminds me, I have to figure out how to link my affiliate code for your workbook to one of the images.

    • Hey Jean you;re so right, not sure how it happened really but affiliating is actually a very VERY good thing.

      If you need any help just shout but your code will have a url in it within the code probably surround by ” ” just take the url out of the code and make the image link to it, email me if you need more help or I can put a video oout for it.

  4. James, you are spot-on when you say that our whole lives are affiliates. Even our shoes and high-end electronics are not always made by the brand on the label. People usee licensing evey day in order to ride on the coattails of others.

    It’s best to be in the driver’s seat and own the product that is being sold instead of being the affiliate, but it sure is a lot less work to sell someone else’s stuff.

    James,

    You do well with your videos. I’ve thought about the whole affiliate thing for a while and if you think about it in the ‘real world’ sense, there’s nothing dirty about it!

    It’s a business ;)

    James,
    I agree 100%. I once heard it said that “sales is good for you, it’s good for me, and it’s good for the entire economy”.
    You’re right on, when you realize that these big guys are buying commodities wholesale at 25-30% of retail, marking up and reselling are basically just big affiliates.

  7. good analogy with the super market, that really clarifies what affiliate marketing resembles. I am working right now to get some affiliate products up on my site. Yours is one!

    I am interested in doing affiliate marketing as well but I get very little in the terms of people clicking through. Guess I need to work on the sales pitch a little and build my list.

    • Yeah brother that’s it in a nut shell, an image just won’t cut it, a promotional post like you’re doing and of course, as we talked about in the exclusive videos mailing list is everything.

    • Mike, your current promotion is a great way to get things moving. Also, I have learned that it is important to not sell as an affiliate. No one like to be “sold to”. Tell stories, compare benefits, list the ways in which “product” will save time, money, double your friend list on Facebook, whatever, and keep the selling lingo out of it, and you will end up selling more. That is my experience anyway.

    I think that similar to supermarkets, we need to display our affiliate products in a way that is organized and attractive. This increases our chance of making good sales.

    Affiliates are definitely a great way to get people involved in products that may very well fit their needs other than just your own. Very good video James and I couldn’t agree more.
