How to – Start Guest Posting

Guest posting is a fantastic way of both promoting your website in a new arena, and getting new readers as well as boosting your own content. So here is how;

  • Using guest posts on your site

Invite guest posts on your website by producing posts like this, or on your social media networks. A good way of enticing people to want to guest post for you is to talk about your traffic and the comments you get. Promote your site in the best possible way and want people to be affiliated to you and show case their very best work on your site. People will ask you, what you want them to talk about, how long etc etc. Simple answer I use all the time is as long as it fits into the site well (i.e similar style of posts already on your site) the last thing you want is people wasting their time writing a post about baking, when your site is all about producing digital images. The only other thing to remember is tell them to submit it but don’t promise anything. You don’t want to disappoint anyone.

  • Producing guest posts for others

Producing guest posts for other websites is a fantastic way of reaching new readers and getting traffic to your website. The best way to do this is contact the website owners you want to guest post for. For example email me if you want to guest post for me and talk about what you can offer the site and my readers. Grab me and say hey this is what i’m producing already and this is what I want to produce for you! Don’t go round the houses, get in there and be bold, ask them out right if they would be ok with it and just send it in.

  • Things to remember

When you want to produce a post for someone, don’t always target the big websites. Use sites that your interested in, after all just because they rank at 5,500,000 and your ranking at 500,000 the site you guest post for could be ranked a lot higher than yours in a few months.

When accepting guest posts think in the same way you do when submitting your guest post to someone else. Accept a good article, who ever it’s from. Two lost of promotion to your website is better than one.

    Hey James!

Really impressed with how quickly you responded to my request. But sadly, it is not quite what I was looking for. In fact, you didn’t answer my question at all (were you a politician in a past life?).

When I asked about “the mechanics of guest posting” I was referring to the technical details. Things like setting up a guest account in your WordPress database for the guest to post from. Do the guest posts go into a moderating queue for the site admin to approve/decline/edit? Is there a way to have the post show up in the host’s blog and the guest’s blog? If so, if the post is edited in one blog, will those edits automatically show up in the other blog?

That’s what I was talking about, James. It was a technical question, not a marketing question. :-)

    Kind regards
    Steve

    • Hi Steve, Now I see what you were after, But I personally don’t like that way of guest posting. I will do a how to post about how to set up guest accounts on your wordpress site for others to use this weekend for you. Hopefully that will be what your after.

[gah! wish you had threaded comments]

You can if you like, James, but I know how to do it now so I don’t need it.

Or… give me an account on your WordPress with role set to “contributor” and I’ll write up the article for you. :-) Send the password to me via private email.

  3. Hi James,

I love guest posting, I think is the best way to get exposure and traffic.

In this first month of theinfopreneur.net life have you written any guest post for another blog? How many? I mean, it could explain your exponential growth.

Keep doing like this buddy, I will follow your footsteps :)

    See you James.
