Knowing how to configure the tweetmeme button is something most of you will know already, but I get emails about this all the time and I notice it on least one or two different websites everyday. If you have a tweetmeme button you will know how important it is, but unless you have it configured properly you are missing out.
The above screen shot will show you how the untouched tweetmeme button will re-tweet your content when someone else clicks it;
Now this standard version will still allow your readers to RT your content to their twitter followers but what will happen is you won’t know who is RTing your content. I always like to see who is RT’ing my content so I can see the trend of new readers getting involved versus existing readers and to thank them then engage in conversation too.
Below is a quick video on how to configure it properly, you may need to enlarge the screen or up the quality of the resolution, best viewed in 720p;
In case you can’t view the video configuring it is really. Go into your WP dashboard and click your tweetmeme options and go to soure. Replace @tweetmeme with your username leaving out the ‘@’ and click save, easy.
So now your tweetmeme button will actually be Re-Tweeted to you, even if you have done this already I recommend you check it every time you have upgraded because I have noticed some sites tweeting @tweetmeme after they have upgraded the button.
As I said some of you will already know this, but none of us are born knowing everything.

Such a simple fix. It really frustrates me when people don’t have this configured because I want them to know I’ve RT’ed their post so I have to go searching for who they are!

I have the button set properly on my Christian blog, but I just can’t figure out the settings for my other blog. I need to get this resolved because it’s super annoying to me to attempt to RT someone post to @tweememe – I’ve notified quite a few people when I could’ve taken the cue to write about it like you chose to do here.

Re-tweet button is a big deal brother it brings in a huge amount of traffic because readers can send this content to their followers

Nothing drives me more crazy that some of the social media “experts” have this so screwed up. LOL

I remember the email I got or comment etc… informing me that I needed to do this… (that wouldn’t happened to been you James, would it?.. he hee.. thanks by the way.)
Anyway I began drafting it up for a post for blogger blogs. I need to finish it for others. But in the meantime feel free to holler if you need some help configuring it on with blogger.
I use blogger so of course it was different and not as simple as WP. At least not for me. I spent more than a few searches and frustrating days figuring out, as most of the searches failed to do a very informative post on how to do it with blogger. I finally got it and once I did it was in all actuality fairly easy to do once I figured it out. Hope that makes sense…

As for those asking about traffic, I’ll chime in on that too.. it has definitely increased my traffic from twitter using the RT button.

Hey man yeah I think we have spoke before about it, dude you should really start doing stuff for blogger, tutorials etc. I would say half the reason people switch from blogger to WP is because they don’t know how to change it enough, might be a market for you?

Oddly enough I can understand. There is an air of mystique around partial anonymity!
In any event, I have a question about tweetememe and connecting it to your blog…I have tweetmeme and once I use it to tweet a new post, the shortened URL is not showing up in my bit.ly account. I put in my API key in the tweetmeme wordpress options but it doesn’t seem to work.
It’s a drag having to go back into your old tweets to find the shortened URL every time you want to resend a link to someone.
So, any ideas on how to get the tweet to show up in your bit.ly account?
