Is social networking the new SEO?

Site owners can spend hundreds sometimes thousands by paying an expert to make sure their site reaches the first pages of all the search engines and still struggle to reach a good rank. Also the amount of time spent on placing keywords and making sure all this correspondes to your meta tags can be a huge drain on a site which is run by one person.

I have constantly found this when promoting sites I have been involved with over the years and have always struggled with finding a trust worthy and more importantly reasonably priced ‘expert’ to do this for me, but since starting TheInfoPreneur I have found an easier way of driving traffic to the site, which is much more reliable AND the visitors are highly targeted.

Social Networks are the single best resource for two things;

  • Finding new readers
  • KeepingĀ and building those new readers

On my Twitter account I tweet my new post links, which all my followers are exposed to instantly. With the addition of twitter Lists its even more targeted. One tweet or re-tweet of my post gives my site instant hits and we’re talking within seconds not hours.

What sort of hits are we talking? 100-200 hits on average from one tweet on Twitter, bear in mind that at the time of writing I have 2000 followers which equates to average 5-10% of my followers go to see my tweet link to the latest post. The percentage was exactly the same when I had 100 followers, roughly 10%. So build up your Twitter following to around 50-60,000 and your going to get a huge amount of traffic which is all free, and so easy my child could do it…. While eating breakfast….. Blindfolded!

Bring in the same statistics for Facebook, FriendFeed, YouTube, Forums etc etc and you’ve smashed SEO out of the park !

With the addition of google now entering the social networks with special searches for twitter, For me Social Networking wins hands down!
