Birthing New Babies & Information Products – Does the Umbilical Connect Them?

IMG_5433
So, I’m fresh off the heels of kicking my latest baby out of the nest.  Over the past 3 weeks, I’ve been busy creating an awesome training platform for folks looking to create their own wordpress website in order to get the word out about their products, services, or brands.  Along the way, I had a few profound thoughts I wanted to share with you.

The first thing that strikes me as sort of humorous, is how similar creating information products can be to delivering children.  Now, granted, my wife will be the first one to tell you that I personally have never delivered any children.  And I suppose there is a little bit of justification behind that view.  :)   However, after having been through a total of 36 months of morning sicknesses, watching 4 kids emerge into this world, cutting 2 umbilical cords, and having 1 arrive 5 minutes after we hit the maternity ward doors, I feel confident in comparing creating information products to delivering of new babies.

1) It’s a painful, sometimes, long drawn out process.  From the get-go, it always seems like you will be finished with certain parts of the process in…say…2 days.  However, as luck would have it, it ended up taking 4 days to finish that specific part of your project.

My wife would go into the birthing process hoping labor would only last for….say 2 hours, but sometimes ended up going just a little longer.  But, as always, with the right support and perseverance, YOU CAN GET IT DONE.  Stay focused…breathe…whooo-heeee-heeee-heeee….and PUSH (that’s what they teach in the stupid birthing classes anyway, it always went right out the window once things started moving).  You WILL get it done.

2) It’s a long process, but when the finishing touches are put on it…it is a beautiful site to behold.  In the beginning stages, sometimes it’s difficult to make out exactly what the end product is going to look like.  I mean, we can set-up our desired finsihed product, including our wish list contents, and bonsues, and then as things progress, sometimes it changes looks on the fly.

Similarly, when our little ones are forming in the womb, we have cells splitting, multiplying, fragmenting, morphing, etc, and in the end, no matter what comes out, it’s a beautiful being all of it’s very own.  Something to treasure.  Completely different from every other one in the world.  The babe even has your eyes and lips…as does your information product.

3) Sometimes, when finished with your product…you are left feeling exhilarated.  You may think…”that’s our last one”, or “I’ll never do that again”.  It can be a painful struggle that you just went through.  As time goes on, you look back and think:

You know what, that wasn’t that hard.  And I think I’d like to have another one….

or

It’s a lot of work, and we’re now going to have to care this baby, but it was fun getting there.  :)

Ok, either way.  Making AWESOME information products can be a lot of work.  When they are done, it’s an awesome feeling, but here’s the best part.  Just like most women who have had 3 or 4 babies will tell you…after the first one, they usually come quicker, and a tad easier.  The same will happen with your information products.  It gets easier the more you create them.  You will learn shortcuts.  You will learn better ways to “birth your new baby”.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the comparison.  If I can help answer any questions for you….let them rip.  I look forward to making your product birthing processes a little easier.  :)

Take care,

Brandon Yeager
