Are You Hungry Or Are You Starving?

Eric

Just today I was spending some time with my daughter and holding her close to my chest. She started crying and bobbing her head back and fourth and I knew that meant she was hungry. But it got more intense. In fact, I had to hold her closer to me and more gently because she was so hungry and was tired of waiting for her mom to make her bottle.

I told you that little story to tell you this.

A blog is awesome to have these days as is more powerful than ever, only if used correctly. Building a blog and a business behind it isn’t an easy task. James has done it and has shown that you really can make it happen if you truly want it. He wasn’t just hungry, he was starving!

The Right Time

This is one that you probably already know but I’m going to say it anyway because it’s probably so important that it’s the reason why a lot of people just don’t make it. There literally is no right time and never will be, ever. In fact, if there ever was an actual right time, it’s now. Today. Hell, yesterday for some of us. That’s all because you have to want it and go after it and get it done now. Putting things off isn’t going to get you any further today than it did yesterday, period.

So… When is the right time for you?

Who

Do you want to be the next problogger out there in the blogosphere or do you just want to be you? OK, let me rephrase that just a bit. Do you want to go pro or do you want to just stay where you are. Who do you want to become and how hard are you willing to work for it? You can get it. You can. If you’re willing to simply do whatever it takes to make it happen. Again, just look at James. I always keep mentioning him simply because I’ve been following him so closely and have seen what the man can do.

Broke V. Money

What I don’t understand here is how some people who blog say they want to make money but yet are not sure if they want to promote something or sell something of their own. Um, how are you expecting to make a living or even just some money then? It’s not bad to sell things with your blog, in fact, it’s good. It’s about providing value. So if you’re not providing some kind of value then absolutely should you not sell something. Just create a product that will make the lives of others better and market it with your blog and learn as you go.

I’m no expert at this and not claiming to be and am currently not, yes you read that right, I’m not selling anything from my blog just yet. But in the end, it comes down to the fact that just writing articles 3 to 5 times a week on your site isn’t going to cut it if you want to make money.

Speed And Concentration

In James’s 20/7 Rule (yes I bought it, of course!) he talks a bit about how he does things to speed up the process and keep concentrated on the task at hand. I won’t go into much detail of the book but will recommend you buy it. It’s worth it, trust me.

You have to figure out how to make the most important things with your site fast and keep on them all the time. I’m not talking about doing a thousand things more than you did today but at least doing a bit more today than you did yesterday and repeat the process. Over time, it all adds up.

Speed is important in all this and unless you’re concentrating, you’re going to slide around and slow down and then you’re going to be right back where you started.

So… Are you hungry or are you starving for something more from your blog?

Great points Eric and yes James has proven to be the best at what he does in my eyes. However, I believe it is still a choice on how bad you want that recognition, right? Everyone has a purpose in life and we just have to find it.

    • Eric says:

Yes, finding your purpose in life and then taking action and achieving what it is you’re after is what makes life worth living. Some people don’t go after things because they don’t truly believe they can ever achieve them. Believing is a big part of the situation.

      Thanks for the comment! :)

  2. Yeah great points you mentioned here Eric. I believe it’s important to have the right attitude and not to delay things till the next day. Ultimately it’s about take action. That’s the most important thing that is going to help grow your blog.

Growing a blog is darn near impossible without some passion and fire in the belly, regardless of the motivation for growing it. Having a passion to get helpful, positive info. out into the world has caused me to seek out others who are good examples of this (like James) and learn how to step up my game. Now it’s time to start more “doing.”

Yes it does take a lot of time and you have to keep at it which can be tough at times, especially when you want some of the rewards so bad right now. But it’s worth the wait and teaches you patience in the end.

I think for some people they aren’t sure when to take the next step and when they’re reading, they aren’t sure if they’re doing the right thing. It’s about trial and error but as long as you show you care and keep going, you should be fine.

  4. I think most of my life being hungry was the norm, so needless to say, by now, I’m starving! You do have to just push all the distractions aside in order to just chug through all this writing – but it’s not easy. Especially if you’re like me and you have a family, every free moment of my time is spent either, thinking about my blog, coming up with ideas, drafting, or doing some socializing activity. It’s a bit consuming right now, but like I said, I’m starved, so I’ve gotta do what I gotta do.

Life can definitely get in the same of our dreams which is why we need to believe and keep taking action. And yes it helps to be around people who support you and having a good family that’s there and understands what you’re doing is good too.

I know it’s sometimes hard for me to find time to do things with my blog(s) which is why time management is so important, and kicking yourself in the butt to get going.

You are very right, Eric. It’s not easy to make money from your blog especially when you are starving. And also I agree with you that if you want to make money from your blog, you should make your mind about selling or promoting something on your blog, that’s the way to go if you really want to hear some kaching on your blog :) .

Great article. Hope your daughter enjoyed her meal :) .

  6. Hey Eric, nice post. You’re absolutely right. If you waant something badly enough you’ll get it. If you don’t want something enough you won’t.

  7. The concept of “the right time is now” is crucial. Carving out the time is the difficult bit, but if the motivation is there is is always possible, even if it means going to bed later…Not that finding the motivation is always easy!
