And The Winner Is…..

OK guys before I get into who the winner is I want you to know that there will be a runners up prize coming up soon and you will choose the winner. The runner up will get one day of advice and help (including traffic) but it’s the readers of this site who will vote who the winner is, now the runners up can ask people to vote for them any way they like I don’t mind but ultimately you decide who out of the three people I choose will win the runners up prize.

I will be sending an email out to the three runners up in the next few days and ask them for a short note as to why they think they deserve to win and then it’s down to you.

OK enough waffle, the winner of the competition I Will Work With For Free For Two Weeks Is….. Phil Raby from FindaPorsche.com

So why Phil? Well he knows his market, he’s a Porsche consultant and a Porsche writer, he has written a few different books and would like to start earning some serious revenue from it all. Phil is a professional writer so his content is going to be of a high standard. Some stats of Phil’s site FindaPorsche.com at the time of writing;

  • 25 Posts since February 12th (When the site went live)
  • 30 Re-tweets on those 25 Posts
  • 1st Page Google for the term ‘Find a porsche’
  • 1st Page Google for the term ‘porsche consultant’
  • Unique visitors are 20-35 a day at the moment on average.

The other reason I decided to choose Phil was because choosing a related site (marketing, traffic, motivation etc) would have been too easy and a safe bet for me really, remember the whole point of this was to show case the two weeks and package it up as proof that it can be applied to a site outside making money online etc.

Now where do I want to take Phil? Well first things first we’re going to raise his profile within the Porsche community as a consultant and as a sales broker, Phil knows Porsche 911′s inside and out and it’s time the world knew that. We’re going to increase traffic, business enquiries, ebook sales social presence absolutely everything, a few design tweeks on the site to make it easier for people to get involved too.

I’m so excited to be working with Phil on this case study, as I said at the start I will be documenting absolutely everything we do and package it up, which will be an amazing resource and some serious information contained as it will be two whole weeks of work plus all the results and comparisions etc.

I want to thank everyone who entered and now just want to remind you that you still have a chance to win the runners up prize, more details of which will be coming out soon.

What does everyone think?

Congrats to Phil! Hope the site takes off like a fast car :)

Excellent placement on the ‘Find a Porsche’, my hats off to you.

I bet if you could snag “Where To Buy A Porsche” the traffic would really skyrocket :D

  3. Haha, first… James I’m totally NOT surprised you picked this one. You Porshe slut you! *wink*

But after venturing over to the blog… I have a few thoughts. I think his website needs a re-design, he needs to fix his titles, and his link structure is whack. SEO the shit outta him James. Phil if you’re reading… expect some good things coming your way. Your site’s got potential, so congrats. I’m sure you guys will do a bang up job.

And James, how will you be releasing the results of this case study? blog posts or .pdf? Looking forward to see what you come up with.

    Good luck.

P.S- I’m still waiting for the day I race my 458 Italia against your 911. Now only if Ferrari can stop being shit-heads and offer it with a TRUE manual – gate shifter style.

  4. This may come out sour as a lemon, but I thought it was a random draw, not a beauty contest.

On the flip side, it shows how potent James’ talents are for so many people to have taken a punt on this prize.

Well done, Phil – can’t wait to see the results!

    • Hey Dave, no that’s cool and I can kind of see that, the winner was chosen by some of the following factors really, what stage their site was at, how much of a challenge would it be to me and the techniques I use and how much of a difference I could make. As I was choosing the winner I liked the idea of working with someone who’s site wasn’t in my market,

that said though Dave I’m going to choose three people who the readers of this site will choose a winner so there is still a chance brother !

  5. Well done Phil!

Good luck and I hope the project works well for both of you.

  9. I’m not sure you really want to know what I think James so feel free to delete this comment if it offends you. However, I’m told you value honesty so I’m going to say it anyway.

I feel very disappointed on behalf of your readers. You had a wonderful opportunity to work with someone who needed a little support. Having taken the time to go back and read some of the appeals made by people, I can see that your regular readers value the opportunity to work alongside you.

Phil is a professional writer. He drives cars that most of your readers can only dream of. He is the editor of a published magazine. You’ve chosen the guy who most folk will, I imagine, believe is already living the dream. OK, so his website could use a little work and he might be a novice at Twitter but he has a career as a writer.

Sorry James, but I have to say that you’ve gone down in my estimations today. I really believed that this competition of yours was about helping someone else but instead you have chosen to play the move that is most beneficial to you and you alone.

    • Hi Eleanor,

Firstly I’m sorry you feel this way but there is a chance for the runners up, however let’s address the issue head on. In total I had a lot of interest so there was going to be disappoint for sure and for that I am sorry but you can’t always please everyone and some will be disappointed.

I chose Phil for the reasons above and believe I can and will deliver results on his site and increase his business, Phil is a proffesional writer yes, but there are millions of proffesional writers online and most of which actually don’t get the exposure they need or deserve which is why people like me (not proffesional writers but know how to make things fairly popular) can help.

Again I’m sorry you feel this way but there is another chance for people and yes some will feel disappointed but that’s always going to be the case. I’ll send you an email now but apart from that there is nothing much else I can do except make sure everyone I work with benefits

      • Hi James,
Whilst you and I have communicated about this via email, for the benefit of your readers I felt it was only fair and proper that I clarify my position. I don’t doubt for one second that you can and will help Phil get exposure for his site.

However, you’ve always been one for the little guy. You talk about helping others and your readers respect your opinion. The point I was making was not about whether you can or can’t improve Phil’s traffic. I was just speaking up for the little guy who can’t really afford to pay to work with you and saw this competition as a brilliant opportunity to get some help from someone they like and respect.

I would dare to suggest that if Phil really needed your help, he is in a better position to pay for the privilege than some of your readers who are currently working two jobs just to stay afloat. Likewise, being in the media business, I suspect he has other contacts at his disposal should he so desire.

All that said, I wish you and Phil all the best. I’m sure it will be a huge success.

        Eleanor

First I will like to say Congrats to Phil .
Then I really like the criteria you put in place in order to come up with the winner.
In either case you will still have something to present to your readers either a case study on “how to’s” or “what not to”

    Good luck with it! ;)

  14. Phil Raby says:

    Hi all

First of all, thanks James for picking me, it’s a real honour and I look forward to working with you.

Second, thanks to all the other comments – both good and bad. I appreciate the feedback. I don’t think it’s my place to reply here to criticisms of James’ choice; it was his decision and I’ve leave him to defend it. :)

I do, though, hope that James’ work with me and my site will also help others.

On a practical note, I agree that my site doesn’t look as good as it does – I’m a novice at web design – and I am thinking of investing in the Thesis theme. Any thoughts on this?

    Cheers :)

    Phil

  15. Congratulations Phil!
I´ll keep an eye on the project.

  16. Congrats Phil, a free Porsche for everyone! :) I’m sure James will really step up your site. It will be interesting to watch him work his magic.

  17. Ralph says:

    James,
I have to admit that I couldn’t figure out what you were doing with thit. Part off that is my fault because I have been preoccupied with my own issues and haven’t followed closely but once again, you really impress me. This is a great idea and a fantastic way to demonstrate your value. You are obviously more that just another pretty face.

Congratulation to Phil, I’m sure James wont disappoint you with his input and help.

Although I have to agree with Eleanor on this James, and not wanting to sound like a bad loser or anything I did feel a little disappointment for your top commentators as you are always reminding them that they had a huge role in making your site a success. Nothing personal James, just my thoughts. I will wait with anticipation for the results.

  21. Congratulations Phil! It sounds like he is in a prime position to benefit from your advice. It will be great to find out how well his online business improves from your input.
