I like the idea of using polls I really do. I use polls in forums because they have a much broader audience than my blog has. Comparing people in posts is also interesting. But what you can also do is to look at the whole picture and trying to identify patterns. What do most successful blogs have? I tend to find that how well a guest post does is mainly driven by who they are - i.e. how many followers they have etc. Guest posts almost always seem to get less comments, partly because my own readers might skip the post because it isn't me, or perhaps refrain from commenting for the same reason. But they don't necessarily get less traffic, yours didn't, for example, so it's very hard to tell.
