Ideas are where it really does begin but then we must learn to take real action on those ideas and create a plan and keep at it in order to make them reality. I personally want to be a full time blogger and will some day, just not yet, as I’m building up my blog to allow me to do so.
My idea is a lot like others however I’m working hard behind the scenes (I know, some people still pump out amazing content while doing other stuff though I’ve been extremely busy, no excuse) to make an amazing blog that truly helps people get much further than they already are.
A Few Years
A few years ago my site was just a static website and more of a personal site with no real intention. For too many years I had absolutely no plan for it and that’s exactly what it did for me, nothing.
Over those years I did a lot of thinking and started getting creative with what I wanted to do for others and actually got started on all my ideas. That wasn’t good either.
Too Much At Once
I realized fast that starting on each idea I had was not something very good to do. Having a plan and going at it step-by-step is where it’s at. That’s because you’re not too overwhelmed and can then focus on what matters most: getting done what needs done right now.
Everything starts as an idea and it doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad because you’ll find that out along the way. What DOES matter is how you react to those ideas and what results you get from taking action on your plan with them.
So make sure you’re focusing on your plan of action and getting done what needs done right now and keep going as you progress.
Don’t just go crazy and take on too much at once because that’s the fastest way NOT to get your ideas out there in the action.
All that being said, what ideas have you for your site and what are you doing about making them become a reality?

Excellent Dev,
Focusing on one thing until it’s done is the way to go to make your ideas become reality.

Too much at once is exhausting and the number of half-arsed ideas that I’ve dabbled in on my site is absolutely huge. I’m learning to cut down on implementing them until I’ve thought them through properly. Right now I’m exploring the whole podcast element, which is something James suggested I looked at.

Different forms of media is certainly the way to go because you reach a bigger audience.
Good stuff and I’ll actually be doing more videos on my blog coming soon.

This is great advice for any blogger, Eric, but it’s massively important for newer bloggers. We think we have to do everything at once and are going to fall behind in some way if we don’t do it all right now.
What’s helped me manage ideas is to make a plan of exactly where I want to go in terms of blogging. If I get a great idea for something, I write it down and put it on a list according to the point in time it will make sense to work on it. Meanwhile, I keep working on whatever idea will have the most power for the stage I’m at now.
I still have days when I want to put every idea into play right this minute, but I remind myself that blogging is a marathon and not a sprint.

That’s excellent stuff there Jean,
Keeping ideas written down according to when it makes sense to implement them all while continuing where you’re currently at so you don’t get off track is great.
I’m doing something similar myself though yours sounds a bit more organized.
Thanks for your ideas and comment!

I love this post! The thing is, we come up with ideas all the time. And like you said some are good and some are bad. And if I may add, some are good and some are great, but it’s up to us to narrow those ideas down to that great idea that’s worth planning and taking action. Thanks for sharing!
You’re right Jarrod,
The best way to find out if the ideas we have will work is to get them out there and discover for our selves. Take one idea and see if it works and if so, great, keep going with more. If it doesn’t work, revise it and try again and if not still, look into something else.
Whatever it is though, never stop, ever.

Love your post, Eric. You can have millions of ideas in your mind, but taking an action based on one of your idea is a tough one and it’s frustrated to most marketers. how to get it through?
Very true William,
Great ideas are always coming and going and the key is to make something of them. It’s not always easy but necessary to learn and grow and understand when to make the right decisions.

Henning,
Connecting with people and sharing what you have to offer is what it’s all about. Building relationships is what makes blogging such a great and fun thing to do.
Thanks!

I think that ideas with action applied to it with good planning along side it will definitely come into being as a success.
That’s what I think, Eric

Making sure to have a plan and never giving up will make great ideas come to life. The key is to always never give up.

I am so guilty of starting things and not finishing, the internet is littered with many dead websites that I’ve started.
I like to call this IMADD
Lately, I’ve been trying to focus on one thing at a time. It doesn’t matter if it’s updating links on a Squidoo lens, building a new hub or writing a new blog post. I get one thing done and move forward. My biggest problem now is prioritizing what is going to be done next.

Hey Bcarter,
Yeah I have a lot of ideas running around in my head all the time and you just have to write them down and get a bit more organised as you go. I think that figuring out what will bring the most rewards right now is what’s most important but sometimes that can change.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I like how you said, “Don’t just go crazy and take on too much at once because that’s the fastest way NOT to get your ideas out there in the action” for two reasons: you’re definitely right, and it reminds me of the old saying, “Don’t bite off more than you can chew!”

Exactly Steve,
Thanks and yeah you have to make sure you’re getting all the ideas down on paper but then only taking on so much and learning as you go otherwise you’ll feel overwhelmed and looking back will realise that nothing actually got done.
Thanks!

An idea is great, a solid goal with action steps is better. Oftentimes we have great ideas but unless we pull our fingers out, they tend to stay dreams…
