Compelling Blog Post Reviews – Feel, Felt, and Found

Hello InfoPreneurs,

An Ethical Disclaimer: I forget exactly who I heard this from originally, so yes, it is synthesized material.  It may have been Kern, not sure.  If any of you know…shout it out that way they can get credit.  Anyway, as bloggers, we need to find a way to create some sort of revenue stream, and providing Blog Posts reviewing products is a great way to do just that.

That being said, openly coming out and saying:  “Hey, check out this cool product”, is probably not going to earn you many points, and it’s probably going to leave your readers with a bad view of your site.

If you instead, present real, genuine feedback regarding products, you have reviewed them personally, or can attest to the maker’s quality, then perhaps it is a great way to share the word about certain products you enjoy.  All products, and all marketer’s are not created equal.  Some are undervalued, others are overvalued.  In this post, I want to show you how you may be able to better connect with your readers.

  • Feel – Open with This – An Example

About 1 year ago, I was stumbling my way through the Internet world.  I was seeking to find some ways to generate some income using my knowledge of real estate investing. (Sidenote…remember my video from a week ago filmed while driving back from a propery…. I’m buying that house today for $33K, and selling it Monday for $45K…should net about $10.5K for 2 hours of “work”. Sweet.)  I thought I could help teach some people a couple things and began to create some products to sell.

I know this is how many people enter the Internet Marketing world these days.  We all have dreams of just creating an ebook, and setting a course to stardom.  We figure we’ll be rich in about 45 days.

  • Felt – Discuss Your Tribulations – An Example

Well, it didn’t take me too long of “selling” my information products that I realized something didn’t seem to be going in the right direction.  I had spent countless hours typing my ebook, editing, reviewing, re-reviewing, and had some fantastic content in it.  The only problem was…I was getting about 2 clicks per day to the site.  Nobody was buying it.  And it was very discouraging.

Frustration was mounting.  My wife is clamoring about why I’m spending so much time messing with the internet stuff and that I should just focus on real estate investing.  I tried to explain that with the Internet realm, the sky is the possibilities, and products and information can be created and sold exponentially.  She kept sticking by me though.  I’ve got to hand it to her.

  • Found – What You Discovered That Changed That Problem For You – An Example

So, I decided to pay for some better expertise.  I knew I had great content, but something just wasn’t adding up properly.  I stumbled across a blog by a guy who was one of Alex Jeffreys coaching students.  Matt was rockin and rollin really well 6 months after his training.  He put together a lot of information into a Step By Step system that really made a lot of sense to me.  So, I went through everything he had and realized I had just made a great investment in my education.  I also figured if Alex can do this for Matt, he can do it for me.  So, systematically, I started changing my products I was “selling” over to using what Matt was DOING and teaching, and everything began to change.

Now, I have a niche focused on selling Physical Products using these same techniques…completely unrelated to the Internet Marketing field.  I ran a Special Discount for the past 48 hours and here is a picture of a sale I made yesterday (I’m typing this on the 17th).  It regularly sells for $99, but I offered it for $49+$7 shipping and handling.

So, If you are looking for something that has definitely been a good return on my invested dollar, and haven’t been having any successes with your other stuff, maybe check out Matt’s System.  It has worked well for me.  It covers a lot of the nuts and bolts to change your thinking as to how to approach this whole Internet Marketing game.  Maybe it will work well for you.  PS.  You do have to take action.  Without action, doesn’t matter how you try to get where you are going…it just won’t happen.

***** END OF REVIEW *******

So, I hope you can see the power of the words you use, and how your review comes across.  This just happens to be a real case review, but I figured it would be a great example for you InfoPreneur’s to show you how to go about them.  I haven’t done a lot of reviews in my life.  However, it is definitely something I need to do more of.

I’m usually thankful to people when they let me know about something that is working for them.  Especially if it’s from somebody I trust, and know doesn’t lie just to make a buck off my forehead.  That exact reason is why I unsubscribe from so many people’s lists.  If they give value, I stay subscribed whether they promote stuff or not…unless they become excessive with it.   I understand they need to make a living, and this is how they do it.  But if I see them promoting stuff that I know is crap over and over again…then I’m likely moving on, because my trust of what they are recommending is no longer valid.

So, Tell me InfoPreneurs, what do you think?  How do you feel about this post?  Agree/Disagree?  I’d love to get your feedback.  There aren’t any right or wrong answers, just help being shared.

PS.  Seriously, I recommend APC.  Check it Out. If it’s not for you, that’s ok too.  I completely understand.

Anyway, have a great weekend.  I’ll be travelling to Lancaster, PA over the weekend, and will be making sure all my ducks are lined up for the closing of the property I’m reselling Monday.  Make it a good one.

I’ve written a couple of reviews on my blog with the purpose of trying to sell something, but no luck so far. I like your approach however and I may need to rewrite that old post showing examples of how it helped me. Thanks.

Well, now I really feel like a big loser for not writing a review post yet :) Oh well, I can write a better one now that I’ve read this info. Then again, I’m the one who still hasn’t cleaned up her categories!

    • Hey Jean,
No problems on the categories. Just remember, while it’s nice to tidy things up, we always need to keep our eyes on the main goals…if that is profitability…don’t lose track of it.

  3. Great tips Brandon! A three step template for a product review. I have seen a similar version of this idea where you relate a problem that you have experienced in the past and how it aggravated you as time went on while looking for a solution. Then you recall a number of solutions that you tried but didn’t work followed by the one that did work, together with data to substantiate the integrity of the successful solution. If it is done without any “call to action”, sales hype, special offers, etc, it comes across as natural as the great example you gave above.

Sales hype might get a few impulsive buyers across the line but genuine honesty is always the best policy in the long run.

    • hey Michael…glad you liked it.

Make no mistake about it…hype sells a lot of people a lot of crap. Unfortunately…if it didn’t have all the hype…not all of them would be nearly as successful.

That was an interesting laid out review and assessment post all rolled into one. I like it. Mind you I am still coming to grips with a house that sells for 33k?! In Australia you could not buy a shed in the middle of nowhere for less than 100k.?!?~where is this property and why is it so cheap?!? Either way, nice work.
I agree with your points about reviewing products, in fact a free plug for me is to check out the how to write a product review post that I wrote a few weeks ago.Covers similar points but unlike you I did not provide an example, which was a very effective way to add social proof (so to speak) to the review.
    Nice title too mate.

Brandon, excellent review. I’ll be happy to provide more specific feedback in the forum or elsewhere that’s private.

But in general, feel free to sell the living horse puckey out of whatever you think has value. It’s your blog. We all need this stuff. We’re all going to buy it from someone.

    • Hey Dave,
Glad you liked the review. I figured it would be nice to help show people how hard sells aren’t really necessary and people would rather get some honesty thrown in there instead.

      Thanks!
