Friday Night Musings…And When You are On the Verge

Hey InfoPreneurs,

Just wanted to run a quick post past everyone.  Yeah…I know…you’ll be disappointed I don’t have a big call to action at the end. :)    Anyway,

What an AMAZING Week…er, Month, er new year for 2011.   I just have to share a couple HUGE impact thoughts, that I want to brew in your head over the weekend.  Ready?

Great!  Here we go.

1) You are worth FAR MORE than you are giving yourself credit for.  How much are you really worth?  Do you know more than an attorney about a particular topic?  Something that could change your life?  Then change YOUR VALUE.  I did several months ago.  I went from thinking I was worth $25/hour…to $250/hour.  I KNOW I’m worth $250/hour.  Can an attorney create an income producing website with WordPress?  Nope.  Do they know about email marketing?  Nope.  Can they create some cool graphics on the fly? Nope.  Can they operate a nanacast business platform?  Nope.  Can they create an awesome information product in 3 days that can produce 20 sales per day?  Nope.    I can.

The day I started valuing my skills and talents, really believing in it, and CHARGING for it is a moment that has greatly impacted my abilities to make money online.  Even for the offline clients who I’m now working with.  Want a WordPress Website?  Just like the client I talked with today who is going to pay me $700.  (Yeah, it’ll take me 3 hours – I gave them a $50 break)  I’m solving their problem right now…with expertise that I can bring to the table unlike many fellow Western Pennsylvanians….so, win-win.

TIP #1: Value yourself.  Look at what you are worth…and start charging it.  Be it for your services, for your consulting, or for your information products.

2) I hit a wall in December….big time.  You can read about it in my new About page.  I’ve taken DRASTIC measures.  Pulled out all stops.  Have been digging deep.  Taken some wrong turns since January 1, but have taken some absolutely AMAZING turns as well.

Matter of fact, just this past week, I interviewed a 2010 Infusionsoft Internet Marketer of the Year Finalist.  Now, I’ve been interviewing a LOT of people.  This KID brought the stinking house down.  It was absolutely amazing.  He gave so much content to me, for free, that I think I am forever indebted to him.  Here’s the amazing thing…he is “ALL IN” helping me promote everything in a few weeks (you’ll be hearing more about it) to his email list, and reviewing my stuff for me.

TIP #2: I met him last year…but was researching new Interviewees on LinkedIn.  He came up as one of my 1st degree contacts and I was like, DOLT!  yes!  I should have remembered to contact him.  So, your 2 for 1 TIP is to a) get onto LinkedIn and Connect with me (I accept all invites), and b) Start reaching out and connecting with people. Matter of fact…I have a new workshop coming out in about 1 week on exactly how YOU can do this also.  Stay tuned.

3) I really only had 2 points, so I’m trying to think of a 3rd…oh yeah.  Wanted to update you…I’ve now had multiple days over 20 sales of some of my products.  I have 4 products I’m working on this second (one is a complete revamp of the 7 Day Info Products program).  Just to give you an early warning if any of you are interested…once I finish these up, I’m going to be reaching out in massive ways, creating new friendships, and relationships, and helping people create awesomeness, together.

I’ll put up more details soon, but if you have a competition going on…we’ll be chatting…hit up my contact form.  If you have a decent sized email list…let’s do a webinar.  I’m going to be doing some guest postings.  So, I’m going to be filling up the hopper, and am wanting to partner with you.  Put a bug in my ear…I’m not quite ready (I’m getting there Sunil ! ), but things are going to be shaking down very rapidly here over the next 4 weeks.

TIP #3 – Stop buying products & start creating your own.  They provide value in so many ways: you can raise your hourly rates & charge what you’re worth, you can give them as bonuses, sell them, use to get optins, etc (this stuff is obvious)…what’s not obvious is how much that is going to start making you in terms of cashola.

So, I leave all of you with that for the evening.  YOu can do this.  Just less than 3 months ago…I was at an all time low…3 months later…I KNOW I’m on the verge of some crazy stuff.  This is what I always envisioned the entire time.

I can tell you the key…was starting to interview A-Players.  No Doubt about it in my mind.  Have No Fears…press the submit button and see what happens.  ;)

Take care everyone…prayers to Japan…and New Zealand.  Welcome to some of the great new folks I communicated with this past week…including Kieran McDonogh (a New Zealander).

PS.  (See, I told you…no call to action on this one…shame on me)  You should also be seeing some big changes in the looks of the site over the next week.  Going to give the header and such….an oil change.

The problem is that charging per hour and charging per design job can be totally different. I could have a couple $250 WordPress design jobs scheduled and also a $900+ scheduled. It all depends on what is needed. Some of the designers out there that have not been out there as long are not juggling the projects they should and charging. Some of my colleagues in the WordPress world feel the same.

Your work is worth the results. However a lot of people need custom work with custom functions and such for WordPress. Designing, I can tell you even on the Freelancer boards, the average job awarded for a full theme is between $150 and $250. Hardcore development with content placement might run about $300 – $700 for medium sites and for larger $500 – $1500 (including custom widget writing.)

Of course, if you are also offering social media marketing and seo work in the mix, the sky is not even the limit…lol. :D

Anyhow. I am not a hard core internet marketer, nor even a little. I learned marketing my own design services the old fashion way and maybe those long car trips to Amways conventions that my dad drove to attend…lol.

    • Hi Nile…thanks for dropping by.
Couple quick thoughts. I’m hearing you about the per project, custom, etc. Here’s what I’d recommend. If you are more profitable with customs…focus on those and create “products” or “buy PLR products” to sell to satisfy the “regulars”.
If you make more doing “standards” & “regulars”, then have a price…you get this for this…and then charge a premium for custom.

But by raising your prices, actually…you are just truly valuing what your time is worth…you will begin to attract those types of clients who want to work with you…AS LONG AS YOU CAN DELIVER.

There’s lots of things to consider…I know my 1 paragraph hardly does it justice. perhaps soon I can better address this, because it’s what I’m going through right now in my business and will hopefully be able to provide further insider knowledge.

      Take care,
      B

    • Agree with that. Also I prefer charging per project because I know a lot of people get ticked off with a ‘per hour’ charge.

Funny you should mention increasing your prices.

I recently increased mine and now I get more clients!

Problem I am having…well it’s not really a problem…I am getting more and more client work which means it is stopping me creating as many products as I want.

But I am certainly not complaining! I love working with clients.

    • Hey Andrew…well…once you get booked so high that you can’t focus on the products…raise the prices more to keep the time freed up. ;)
It’s ultimately those “hands off” projects like creating the products that eventually allows the real freedoms an InfoPreneur should get to experience, right?
That, or hiring a bunch of employees to do work (but who really wants to do THAT?) Well…there are some sickos out there. :) Hah!

Just kidding. Everybody rolls a different way friend.

Keep on doing what you’re doing…sounds like it’s working.

Funny you mention raising prices, I have been thinking more along the line of a nano community/continuity. Now I just need to implement!

    • Keith…I’m sure the nano continuity would work…ultimately…it comes down to…are your customers getting value? Really. so, whether it’s low end…or high end…provide value. I think it’s all in how you want to be positioned. I’m actually working toward a complete funnel.
I want the whole system to be laid out…and then to simply give people what they want.

  4. If only I knew that 6 years ago, when I first started my web development business :) But I can’t complain, every mistake is a lesson, and I ended up doing things I like even better.

    • Hey Jen,
Thanks for the visit. Hindsight is always 20/20, right. :) And we definitely learn from mistakes…and as long as you never give up…then you have no choice but to succeed, right?
Take care, and make it a great weekend!

  5. Great man, you are earning good money.

  6. Hey Brandon,

Thanks for sharing this with us! ( :

You make a very good point. The only way to make more money is to believe our time is worth more than what we currently make. I know my time is worth far more than what I make, thats why I’m working on making more money. I haven’t exactly got there yet, but one day at a time I feel myself getting closer. Sometimes, its easy to just give up. If I do that then, i’ll be letting myself down. Thats the last thing I want to do.

    God bless,

  7. Good buddy, keep it up. Jumping from $25 to $250/hr is really good achievement.
