A Fallacy?: Time is Our Most Valuable Asset

I have a question for you InfoPreneurs?  Is time our most valuable asset?

It is widely held that time is our most valuable asset.  I want to know:  How many clicks can a blogger/InfoPreneur/online marketer make in an hour?  Each click has a certain value to it.  It is moving you toward a goal, or away from it.

  • Wasted Clicks

Every single day, I have to admit, I’m guilty of clicking on something shiny.  Somebody is either doing a great job or marketing, or I’m not valuing my click asset.  What percentage?  Who knows?  Somedays it could be 5%, other days, it could be 20%.  I really don’t know.

When the Gulf is over-flooding with oil faster than New Orleans leavies breaking and dumping water into downtown, it piques my interest.  It brings emotional wonder.  Anybody else clicked on any “Watch the Oil Live” videos on CNN?  Ok, maybe it was just me.

  • Valuable Clicks

These are the clicks that move you one step closer toward your goals.  Have you ever left for a vacation and had NO IDEA where you were going to go?  Pull out of the drive way and go East or West?  Really…no idea where you were going for vacation?  Your getaway paradise.

I haven’t.  I do suppose there are many who may have.  However, the vast majority of us, when trying to reach a destination have a plan of where we are going to stay, who is going to permit free room and board at their timeshare, what beach we want to park our no-good keesters, on etc.

The same needs to be your focus with your online strategies.  Have a defined goal, how you are going to arrive, and make sure your clicks are WORTHY.  Make each click count.

  • True: Time is Our Most Valuable Asset

Ok, so the headline was a gimmick.  I still believe time is our most valuable asset. It has a pre-defined amount, that we don’t know.  When we find we have a certain amount of clicks that need to be accomplished to accomplish a goal (this post has 1,432 clicks so far as I type the keys…just kidding…I really have no idea how many individual spaces and letters have been clicked) then we can start to take defined actions.

These defined actions may even include outsourcing some of your clicks.  Being able to have other people promote you and your site, your products, produce content for you, drive traffic, create articles, build your affiliate platform, write scripts for your payment processing, write HTML code for sales pages, etc, etc.  (Are you getting the picture).  Clicks are able to be outsourced.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EACH ONE.  We choose to make certain clicks.  It is completely understandable that in the beginning, you may want to do many of these clicks yourself.  You need to know your own business and how it can make a profit before you may want to venture into getting others to provide clicks for you.

So, time is the great equalizer.  Essentially, you are able to get others to help provide clicks.  You do not need to do them all, but the ones you choose to do, better be worthwhile.

All this being said, I’d like to welcome to the TIP Team, none other, than Chris Ducker from VirtualBusinessLifestyle.com.  He will take the place of Mo Stoneskin, who will unfortunately be unable to continue.  Chris brings VAST knowledge to the table.  He is truly somebody you infopreneurs will be able to get great content from.  Chris will be posting on Tuesdays and we all have lots to look forward to here at TheInfoPreneur.

So, What Do You Think?  Let me know in the comments below, or ReTweet.  Thanks!

I just posted about the same exact thing, outsourcing, and you are right we do not have to be the ones to make every click in order to bring us closer to our goal.

That’s awesome that Chris Ducker is part of the TIP team now as he is very knowledgeable in his field and I know will add a lot of great stuff here. I’ve only been following him for a couple of weeks but have already learned so much.

Will be looking forward to his posts!

Brandon, I definitely agree that time is our most valuable resource. It’s so easy to spend hours online doing things that do not bring a high return for the investment.

I give myself 15 minutes a day to just read stuff for fun online, but otherwise I stay focused. I haven’t outsourced many activities yet, except for website design.

    • Hey John,
I haven’t outsourced much either except graphics, but I forsee the day coming fairly soon. Mainly in the wake of editing videos, and sales pages, etc.

Sounds like you are a pretty focused dude…I believe it from what I’ve experienced of you.

I outsource things I’m not good at or don’t enjoy, although I do it sparingly. First, I ask myself, “Does this even need to get done?”

Although I’ve been guilty of plenty of wild click-a-thons, lately I’ve been doing lots better with focus and use an online timer quite frequently. I know my personal sink-holes so do my best not to step into them.

Glad to hear Chris is joining the team. I expect I’ll learn a lot from him!

Welcome to the TIP Team, Chris! Glad to have you on board :-)

You’re so right regarding time and clicking. I must admit that I do have energy spurts where I promote other people’s stuff like crazy and then have less motivated times. It’s interesting to see who pays you back and who doesn’t. But, it’s all good.

I think that I will become more selective about my clicks from now on.

    I haven’t outsourced anything yet – oh, but I wish I could! :-)

  5. Hi Everyone

Thank you for the kind comments.

I’m looking forward to getting going, and already have a long list of potential posts, which will ALL be in video format (with a text summary) to start recording next week.

Its a great honor to be involved with such a great bunch of cool, awesome and highly knowledgeable people (my father did tell me that flattery will get you everywhere in life!)

    Until the first post…

    Best,
    Chris

I’ve become very selective of what I click on nowadays, even from my friends because I don’t want to get caught up with what I’d call the “wiki effect” where one interesting thing has you going through a ton of other websites; before you know it, you’re on a completely different subject.

These little 20 minute sidetracks throw everything through a loop in which you become disgruntled that you aren’t working which then slows you down even more.

    Just my thoughts :)

right on…blink your eyes and you’ve just been led down 15 different paths that you hadn’t planned on. Then, when you look back…you are ticked off. ;)

    Brandon,

Another insightful post that makes me want to go away!
LOL – I think I spend too much time distracting myself with blog hopping and being a part of the community rather than building my own business.
Ironically without the community I engage with my brand will be nothing, but if I keep engaging, there will be no brand at all.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Chicken and egg or Catch 22 or murphys law.
Whatever it is, it is 10am and I am on my 65,798.2 click. Geeeez!!
Now I have to go write my Sunday post…..

Never been to Chris’ Site but I have seen him around the blogosphere.
Looking forward to his value add

This is why I work hard to make sure I have a plan for when I get on the Internet. There is only so much time to get something productive done and move closer towards your ultimate goal so in order to do that you absolutely have to know where you’re going.

    Wise words here! :)
