Top 3 Misconceptions About Affiliate Marketing

InfoPreneurs,

Every affiliate marketer finds himself at a confusing crossroad at some point of their career. This post deals with the affiliate marketing myths that you should know about.

One of the most common affiliate myth is that it takes lots of time and effort to create websites and blogs for affiliate marketing purposes. The thing you need to understand is that you actually don’t need much time at all in order to create websites and blogs that will sell affiliate products. I bet you are wondering why. :) That’s because you don’t have to keep adding to it to keep it up. An example of this would be if you had a site that was intended to review a product that you happen to be promoting. You would never have to update the page unless the product changed somehow. These pages will usually remain just as they are without any updating whatsoever. This clearly shows that maintaining an affiliate sales page doesn’t take much effort. Similarly, if you create a blog or a Squidoo page promoting an affiliate product, the only thing you’ll need to take care of will be the backlinks, so that the ranking is maintained. Besides that, it’s totally up to you to add new products or any additional information that you think would be applicable.

It’s a common myth that sticking to one affiliate product will make you successful. The reason why affiliate marketing works so well is because of the diversification of products. One of the things you can do is experiment with various products to see which ones bring you the most success. When you just go with one product and fail to move beyond it, you seriously limit the scope of your success. While you’re working with one product in a niche, try to see what other products are available for you to test. The more products you hold in your portfolio, the more money you’re going to make and the farther you’ll go in affiliate marketing.

Also, in order to start making affiliate sales, you don’t have to have a lot of people to visit your website. Although targeted traffic is a good thing, what matters is that the traffic that is coming to your website is looking for specific product, or a specific solution to their problem. There are sites that receive huge number of visitors but don’t have many conversions. This proves the point that in order to get constant sales, you must get traffic that wants what you are selling.

Finally, don’t be too afraid to look around and discover the best affiliate offers. They main thing about affiliate marketing involves discovering the best offers and putting in your hard work and money into them. If you don’t give up, in a few more years, you will recognize that the effort that you put in was all worthwhile.

Have a great weekend,

Brandon, that is a good post. I would also say that to start making affiliate sales don’t spread yourself too thin. If you’re just beginning in affiliate marketing then find one solid, reputable, quality product or service to promote and focus on it for a while.

  2. These are of the most common myths that exist. I don’t really know why people would think that it would take a lot of your time to create pages. That’s when you come up with some really informative information about the affiliate products that you’d sell – while adding a lot of content like images, videos etc.
I am obviously talking about web 2.0 sites like blogs, free interfaces such as hubpages, squidoo etc. But upon deciding to just write articles – it doesn’t take that much time.
Concentrating on just one affiliate product is really not going to make you more successful. Having different products could take away the focus of what you actually are recommending to whomever is seeing your product presentation. However – one can have more of one product but that are related to each but more importantly complementing each other.

    Hey Brandon,

I guess i have those targetted visitors that want me to sell.

But somehow it is still hard for me to make them buy what i sell :(

Perhaps i should tweak here and there.

    Thanks for this post.
