It’s not always about promoting products, as an affiliate, though that is GREAT and helps make you money. Focus on building your own products as part of your long term plans. How I really like to think about info products…I say, man, I’d love to have a product like that. And what I’ll do in the meantime is promote that person’s product. Start building an email list in that niche, and when the time is right, and you are ready to roll out your own…you’ll be golden.
OR, you may simply decide to never have your own product. Maybe the publisher has already split tested their site, increased conversions, increased to the optimal product sales price and all you need to do is drive traffic.
Look, I don’t care what niche you are in…suppose it’s the weight loss niche. Create some free videos, and then offer you affiliate links on the backend. BUT, more importantly, get those email addresses.

I completely agree….As I said before…Build Your List….this is the best advice that you can get…
Also, do not bombard them with sales offers right away…build a relationship with them first…offer free products…give value…and then try to sell….
This method will take more time, but when you introduce a paid product, they will be a lot more responsive!

Just had a conversation in the warrior forum over just this subject.
I really believe that an email list is the cornerstone of anyone’s internet business.
Everyone teaches things in their products. Things like SEO, PPC, Product Creation, Traffic etc.
But although they are teaching these subjects in their products, what they’re ACTUALLY DOING is selling those products, THROUGH THEIR EMAIL LIST.
“Always look at what people are doing, not necessarily what they’re saying. You’ll learn a lot more”

You know, I have a product or two in development and I haven’t started compiling an email list yet. I know, my bad. But thing is, I was a little messed up about how to approach it, how to do it right. I think that my perceptions were way off and I was making it more difficult than it really is.
Your little video was just the little push I needed to harden my resolve. I have a great free product I can offer. It’s a very simple little tool to help bloggers promote their sites. But it is effective and useful, if not technically advanced and fancy.
I’m gonna do it. Offer it as a freebie as an incentive for people to sign up for my newsletter (I guess I’ll have to make one of those too, lol). Then when my product sites go live I’ll have an email list. Thanks for the push, I needed that!

Glad the video helped. I COMPLETELY had the wrong focus for nearly 1.5 years. I was “selling” information products, and from the folks who I know who are being successful, it’s about GIVING free stuff away, building trust, and an email list, and worrying about the money end of things later.
PS…you are exactly right in getting the freebie going NOW, versus later. You can always add backends to it later, but get the free report, etc going now and start building a list that looks forward to hearing from you.
It’s also, in it’s own little way, a quick and easy way to test any niche for viability and driving traffic.

Nice short video there. Like the presentation, that’s the way I like it. Short and concise.
I think many people who start off in IM tend to think the best way is to drive traffic directly to the offer to make the affiliate sale. We know that the guys who make the big money all have lists. But I guess it can depend on which niche you’re in too.
For example some niches have a wide scope like internet marketing, where people will be interested in different aspects like traffic, building a product etc in which having a list is great as there is a continual interest in the subject.
Some niches like ringtones have people who just want a ringtone and that’s it and doens’t lend to list building well.

Yeah, you are right…some niches it would take some time to think of creative products, but even a guy running a plumbing company in Chicago, Illinois could build a list in his local market by offering 25% off coupons for every email signup, etc…it may take some thinking, but most could have something.

You are spot on about building that list of email addresses. But you also have to show your personality to that list to build trust with them so they will want to invest on you. I like the blog design. Nice video also.
