Abolished Slavery in the 1800s – Traffic, Stats, and Number of Posts are Meaningless – Life is What Counts

This post may be a little disappointing to some of you.  That’s ok, I think you’ll see where I’m coming from.

  • Slavery was Abolished in the U.S. in the 1800′s. So, why do I feel this way?

I don’t like feeling “required” to do anything.  It is WHY I choose to not drive daily to work for an employer (unless it would be completely on my terms).  I am quite certain the slaves who fought their way to freedom in our country didn’t like being required to do the many things in their lives they had to do.  Though I can’t even begin to understand the horrors they must have faced, in my own little mind, I have similar “feelings” so to speak.  I’ve been feeling trapped, to an extent.

Bear with me.  I want to do things in my life because I want to, and enjoy whatever it may be.  That being said, James was driven like a mad man…posting anywhere from 1 to 3 times per day.  I’ve tried my best to follow his lead.

Bottom Line is: There are certain parts of this “TIP” routine that I haven’t been enjoying.  If I feel those parts would be an absolute necessity to my business, I would outsource it to somebody.  However, I don’t.  My blogging daily doesn’t necessarily help you, or myself.  As a matter of fact, it is my belief that they are hurting both of us, that this is even a discussion.  Blogging for the sake of blogging every day is not me.  Yes, it can be a great traffic source.  Yes, it can bring readers to your site.  However, at the end of the day, you can have 1000 people coming to your site daily (I had over 1300 visitors on Monday according to statspress), and it didn’t mean JACK.  Nada.

I’m proud that since I started posting around the end of May, I’ve only lost 7 email subscribers out of the original 377 on the list (plus I’ve added to it), and have started to slowly increase the alexa traffic rankings compared to where they were starting to head (the 3 month trend was downward since like Feb/March).  James made his announcement on 5/31.

I hate feeling overwhelmed worrying about my traffic stats. So, I’m not going to worry about them as much.  Will I check them?  Yeah.  :)   Of couse, but they won’t be my focus.

Also, I hate blogging on the weekends.  Yeah, I could write extra posts ahead of time, and schedule them, etc, but I don’t like “forcing” myself to do it.  Do you see what I am getting at?

  • My Dreams and Visions

I dream of helping people become InfoPreneurs and also helping people locally…  Small Businesses, nonprofits, self-employed’s, individuals with passions to create an online business, etc.  I love giving live talks and presentations.  I love sharing what I know with others.  Obviously, being able to profit from it at some point is a nice bonus.  :)

In order to Build my Million Dollar Business, I’m realizing something must change.  Combing the fact that I hate blogging “because I have to”, with the fact that I have dreams, visions and goals that would require me to NOT post every day, I have to make priority decisions.

May this KILL TheInfoPreneur?

No.  I think it will allow it to be BETTER.  How you ask?  I will be able to focus on my own results and bring back to you better post information right here at TheInfoPreneur.

So, how often will I be posting?  I don’t know.  I don’t even care to plan it. It may be 7 times each week, 1 time each week, 3 posts in one day.  It doesn’t even matter to me, but I know it is not going to be a new 1 to 3 posts every single day.  They may be all video posts.  They may be all written posts for 1 year.  It is going to be what feels good for me at that particular moment.

Being Like Mike – Two of my favorite bloggers are ViperChill and Erica.biz.  Their posts are long.  Their topics, unique.  Their traffic ranks…awesome.  They blog a fraction of the time that I’ve been.

  • Does this Mean I don’t care about You?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.  Quite contrary, it is because I care about giving you nothing but my best, that I have to do this.  Free myself from this bondage of feeling like I have to post every single day, etc.

Discussion Forum – I’ve never wanted to run a forum.  That being said…those in TheInfoPreneur discussion forum…we’ll keep it going.  I get fantastic results from working with you guys.  However, new members aren’t going to be permitted.  Maybe someday it’ll open up again, but not right now.

Number of Blog Posts – Like I said, don’t expect them daily.  But do expect them to be better.

My Life and my weekends are so very important to me.  My family.

I am not wanting to be a ProBlogger – however you may define that.  I’m defining it as somebody who derives the majority of their six figure income from a blog.  I am an InfoPreneur.  I want to connect with InfoPreneur’s via my blog, teach them, learn from them, share with them, etc.  I want my blog to be my communication tool, not necessarily my sales tool, and I certainly don’t want it to be something I don’t look forward to.  Will I use it to make sales?  Well, yeah, in conjunction with communicating to everyone, but that’s not the main purpose of it.

I want it to help me build trust and loyalty, communicate, converse with others, etc.  I don’t believe I need to post daily for that to happen.  Scratch that, I know I don’t have to.  James did it at first, to build up traffic.  The tactic absolutely works to a T.  I was doing it on my other blog.  James did here, and many of you as well are experiencing fruits on your blogs slowly but surely.  He wanted to get as many links coming in as he could…gain followers, etc.

I am an InfoPreneur straight to the absolute core.  And I want to be the best one that I can be.

  • To Thine Own Self Be True

Look, if I can’t be true to my own feelings and and desires, then there isn’t any fooling anybody folks, most importantly ourselves and our families.  We all know, to an extent, the things we are good at.  We all also know what provides a fire deep within our souls, and what doesn’t.  The things we are good at and love to do, we excel at.  The things we don’t…well, we don’t.  Forcing myself to blog daily doesn’t.  Helping people, and living my life as free and driven as I want to….now THAT LIGHTS MY FIRE.

The TIP Team and myself is STILL going to be here providing content, community, motivation, and drive.  We’re going to be sharing what to do, and what not to do’s.  So, stop feeling sorry for yourself, get out there, figure out what makes you tick, what makes you happy, what you hate, and start changing things to make your life fit who you want to be.  Until you do that….you will never be happy.  I love to be happy.  I love laughing.  I am on a soap box, and it’s time to hop off today.

I hope this make sense to everyone.

Until Next Time,

Brandon Yeager

Brandon, I love this post so much I would give it a big kiss if I could.

People who told me I had to post every day were SO wrong. Not because posting every day is wrong, but because it’s wrong for my writing style and wrong for my busy readers.

Thanks for being a true leader, Brandon!

thanks for sharing. Please also, feel free to reach over and kiss your screen. :)

glad you liked it. Nice to also see Granny is still hijacking blogs. ;)

This is awesome Brandon. I’ve been feeling the same way lately. I bought the eBook from James and I was posting every day and commenting all over the place, but for what?

My goal is to make money building niche sites, selling sites on Flippa, and making money online. Yes, one way to do it is with a blog but even on my biggest traffic days for my blog, I’ve never made more than $1.00.

Traffic is cool and Alexa rankings too, but money is cooler.

    • Hey Mike,

I think in and of itself, generating traffic to your site is a great thing, and if it takes posting once per day to lift it off the ground, so be it. I also believe commenting is a fantastic way of getting traffic. Whether it be on discussion forums, and others posts, etc. I really like the sense of community it builds.

I’m not going to stop commenting on sites and promoting, etc. As a matter of fact, that would be one of the primary things I wouldn’t stop doing…promotion. Niche sites can be a great way to go. The one thing I’d say…make it a niche you are passionate about. Make only 2 or 3 at first and focus on them and rank #1 on Google for them, etc. Don’t spread yourself thin. I’m not a big believer in that…mainly because I get bored writing about topics that have zero interest to me. If I had tinnitus…maybe I’d start a site on it. If I was going through a divorce, perhaps I’d start a site on “getting back with my ex”.
I’m not saying people can’t make money on sites that they don’t care about. Thousands do everyday. For me, I love engulfing myself in my topics, creating info products on it, and loving what I’m writing/videoing about. Hopefully that makes sense.

I do see where you are coming from though. Traffic and Alexa are cool, and are indicators, but making profits is good also. Sometimes, we just have to be patient and the money will start. But no matter what any of you do in life, online, at home…do it because you WANT to, and love it. If you don’t, my belief is that it will be a short lived for the majority who undertake it.

Some people do only article writing to niche sites and have great affiliate incomes from it. Some people have raving video fans. Every drummer marches to a different beat. Mine just isn’t “having to write a blog post everyday”. ;)

    Hi Brandon,

I totally back you up as I don’t want to be a slave to my site, either. It’s an awful feeling that you must.post.something.today when you may not be inspired or things in your life are affecting your mindset. Why put out less than stellar content just to cross off the ‘publish today’ item?

I think that you have to do what works FOR you. I’m sure that you will keep us updated on the affects of this post (if any).

    Thanks,

I agree that persons who create blogs shouldn’t be tied down to a particular posting schedule. I admire the honesty in your post Brandon. This proves that the uniqueness and meaning of the content one is offering should always be more important than the frequency of the content’s delivery.

    Hi Brandon,

I only just started with blogging and this post has been quite informative. I don’t plan to blog everyday though. Keep up with the inspiration.

This totally makes sense Brandon! If you are not doing things in life that you want to, have a passion for and are comfortable doing in a natural way then it is not worth it in the end.

For someone new like me, in which I still haven’t established my groove yet, I know I have to do the things that I don’t necessarily want to do, like being on the computer for 10 hours or more a day, but know that I have to in order to have a better life for me and my family. It’s a little sacrifice in the beginning to get a greater reward in the future.

For you though, you know exactly what you want and what to focus your efforts on and to that I say go for it because what truly matters in the end is your happiness and the happiness of your family!

    • Hey Anna,
Thanks. Please know…I’ll still be putting my 10 hours days as well, and I’ll also be commenting, blogging, posting, etc, but I won’t be made to feel like I have to do anything, if that makes sense. I’ll also still be working saturdays, but only on what I want, when I want.

      Take care,
      Brandon

    Brandon,

I told James my feelings on Alexa when he started talking about it months ago, it really doesn’t matter at all. Advertisers don’t even look at PR and Alexa anymore.

I post when I have something to say, period. I admire you for doing the same.

thanks for stopping by. I just finally broke into my heart…sought what I’m wanting to do, how I’m wanting to do it, and have firmly decided what suits my life, my goals, and dreams, and desires. Thanks for chiming in. It is appreciated coming from someone out there crushing it daily.

I think you have the right idea here Brandon. Make sure you know what makes you truly happy and then do it no matter what anyone else thinks. Ultimately you’re going to help more people faster and much greater by doing what makes you happy.

I personally want to make a full-time living from my blog whether you’d call that going pro or not it’s what makes me happy. I do want a return some day (soon, I hope) for my investments on what I’ve been doing at BluePop13.com and I know that some day I will get that.

For me though, even now not making money yet, it’s about being happy and helping others and doing what I love.

Sounds like you and I aren’t too much different there.
