There is no such thing as 110%, when we are dealing with everyday life of humans, there is no such thing as 110%, it’s a belief that sometimes we can muster super human strength and achieve incredible things, this isn’t 110% effort, it’s merely your every day life, you are operating at a much lower effort level than you think;

I think people say 110% just because it sounds more impressive, because if everyone said “I was working at 70% yesterday, but I tried harder and reached 100% (which is a real limit)” it wouldn’t be so interesting.
When one says “I was working at my maximum (=100%), but I tried harder and reached 110% (more than the real limit), it was amazing”, it just sounds better.
I think it’s all about perception in this case, and perception is often more important than reality…

Hey J,
Yeah that’s exactly it, I think sometimes it’s all about making themselves feel better for not actually trying hard enough in the first place, do you think?
It’s true in the real sense – but I have to agree with J here:

It’s all about perception ! If you’re telling someone you did something 150% +, it just sounds sooo much better. It’s just positive self-manipulation, but it does work. Using epic language is inspiring and entertaining. I always go overboard with it

yeah I totally agree with that and completely understand the reasoning behing that language, just a thing to think about personally, if you think you’re going flat out, think about that $1,000,000 ticket

I really liked this video post. I think I am going to try to think like that more often: “If someone (Let’s say James
) were to offer you 1 million dollars, could you work a little bit harder?” The answer is obviously yes, so I need to make a habit of working just a little bit harder.

We can always work harder, take now for instance, it’s half 2 in the morning I’m just in from work, but I could work all night if I had a million dollar check for me

110% talk. It pegs people as phonies to me,
Hi James
I always cringe when I hear I people say ‘he gave 100%’.
As you say you can not give more than you have in you. In fact we can’t operate 100% flat out all the time. If you have a car that does 120mph and drove it constantly at that speed it would soon break down. Humans are not machines but we have an efficient operating speed with a booster available when required for special events.
Great video.
