Everyone knows Google and everyone knows if they need to find something, what ever it is, ”Google it”. The amount of free services Google offer is incredible and it’s one of the reasons why they are one of the biggest companies in the world.
Google has become the bench mark in reliability and I would actually like to bet Google as a brand name is probably one of the most well know in the world, but how can you or your business become Google-fied?
- 25/8
I have mentioned this before but 24/7 365 days a year simply won’t cut it anymore, now before you start thinking ”hold on is this guy mental?” Let me explain, 25/8 doesn’t mean actually doing anymore than can be physically done in 24hrs of each day, what is does mean is actually trying to produce more than you are at the moment.
For example, if you are working 2hrs a day at the moment, step that up to something you can fit into your existing schedule like 3hrs or 3 and a half. By increasing the amount of work you are putting in, no matter how small you will increase your presence and presence is what Google has in masses. To become that house hold name, you have to get into everyone’s homes, it’s as simple as that. Be everywhere and encourage others to help you there.
- Simple
Google has some great services, picasa is just one of them, in fact picasa and gmail are among my two favourites at the minute. The thing I love about both of these products is they are simple, they haven’t over hyped the product (I can hear rumblings of Wave and Buzz, but I’m not talking about them) it does exactly what it says on the tin and that’s exactly (for this site anyway) how I think it should be done.
If you over complicate a product or service it becomes impossible for a reader, visitor or a customer to understand. If you can’t explain it in two sentences then there is a possibility it could be too difficult to understand. KISS is a great thing to keep in your pocket when thinking about producing any service or product, or even new content. Keep It Simple Stupid
- Diversify
Don’t be afraid to think of different avenues, once you have secured the future of your current path. If you have created a website and it’s getting consistent regular traffic then by all means think about monetization, think about expanding the site to offer other options to your followers.
Who’d have thought that 10 years ago the search engine would be producing mobile phones? I mean web browsers and operating systems seems like a logical step, a huge step but logical one all the same. So think about ways to expand on your current foundations. One thing to please remember when doing this is it remember that don’t build too much on top of those foundations, it may just fall over because of the sheer weight.
What does everyone think?

I’m not sure if I can up my tempo at the moment, but I would like to. With Google it is crazy to remember the first time I used the search engine, I vaguely remember searching away with AltaVista and then hearing about Google and trying it, and now it is everywhere, and the number of times I whip out my Blackberry and slap a word, concept, phrase, author, blog name or whatever into the Google bar in the browswer is countless, probably hundreds of times a week. It is part of our lives well and truly!

yeah you’re right it absolutely is part of our daily lives, could you turn your site into something like that?
Well my friend, I am seriously looking at a couple of ideas.
It would be nice if the ubiquitous Google search bar was replaced with a “Mad Dog” bar of some form in years to come but…

To be honest, I don’t think Google is all that great. They buy many small startups and then let them die after taking the technology they want, it’s normal but still.
Though as you say they have famous services that are good. The reason why they have so many successes is because of their search engine I think… I mean it tracks people and what they search for at all times, they know what pictures people watch, they know what videos they like, what feeds they read, what ads are popular, what destinations are popular and so on. This informations is worth lots and lots of money, they don’t release those services because they’re nice.. They do it to make money. Not that I blame them for that though, a company’s purpose is to make money after all.
They don’t have a piece of the social websites pie yet though, but they’re slowly working on that.
Diversifying as you said is a good idea.
Also Coca Cola is the most well known brand in the world, but Google is on number seven apparently.

Speaking of Coca Cola, I remember Richard Branson launching Virgin Cola some years ago, and saying if he picked up just one percent of the world’s cola market, he’d be very happy, indeed.
I’ve always thought that was an interesting approach – having a small slice of a very big pie can be better than a large slice of a tiny pie.
Cheers

yeah that’s always a good way to go, although I would have thought 1% was low balling for Richard lol

The brand I admire most is Apple. They not only create great products but they make them irresistibly cool to own, and sell them at a premium price. Brilliant!

Funny, don’t overcomplicate things, bang on, the other day I went up my bro’s, he couldn’t work out how to get his photos off his camera onto his PC, (pics of his car may I add!
)
So, I went up to help him with that and you know what, we simply couldn’t do it, it was so confusing and a real mess, even using the instruction book that came with phone was useless… these idiots think or assume everyone knows things like they do.
Dumb move, now my bro vows to get a different phone, he will never use that brand again I bet, now think about how many people are likely to have that same issue with the same phone and the numbers mount up.
That’s a dumb business move if you ask me, keep everything as simple as possible and no problem.
Why was his phone so unlike my camera?
You know… plug the usb lead in, open folder to view, download, Done!
It’s shouldn’t be a hassle!
As it is, he now has pics he will have to bluetooth to someone else’s phone then email them to him… how stupid!
What’s the odds, my bro ask whomever what their phone is like and how easy to use, how much etc?
Bottom line, if you are gonna make things that complicated, don’t bother doing it in the first place!

Hey James,
Google is number one on the net and i think their service is the most user friendly online. Yet they can do better, their technology improves at a much slower rate compared to Microsoft. Maybe because their competitors to are sleeping. I think twitter will over throw Google, it’s just a matter of time.

Do you think ? What do you think Twitter will expand into?
Yep, be like Google and take over the world, one page at a time
But , I’d rather be a cool premium brand like Apple – I agree with Phil here. Super-big doesn’t necessarily mean super-good.
And remember, “Don’t be evil”

I think I could do more than I am now doing. The thing I want to do is to spend that extra time on writing guest posts. I think it would get me some additional exposure which would be great.
I also agree with you on KISS. If you make a product too hard to use than it’s usually not that valuable in the end. I think the best products are those that simply have a clear purpose, products that are simple.
