Cold Content Is Dead Content + Video

OK we have all read articles that are dry as hell with no real passion or character and it’s a real struggle to finish reading it. But what if you are writing about a dry subject such as the temperature capability of ceramic brake discs? It’s still easy to have fire and passion in an article like that if you are truly interested in the subject matter.

  • Passion

Yeah I am going to talk about passion again, if you don’t have passion for a subject matter how on earth do you expect to write informatively about it? Seriously think about this right now, think about printer ink. Pretty boring right? Of course it is, but if you are passionate about printers then you could easily turn it into a good read by describing the process the ink goes through maybe a bit of history, keeping your sentences and paragraphs short and easy to read in order to keep the pace up.

You could of course use analogies too, granted not knowing a lot about printers I would struggle, but you see my point? Involve a story or some experience, anything to draw people into your passion, no matter how obscure you think it is, if you sound interesting then people will be interested in you. It all boils down to being a magnet in your market place, no matter how dull the subject speak with passion and people will listen to you rather than the topic.

  • Desire

It’s no good having a passion for a subject if you don’t have the desire to want to talk about it, you have to want to tell everyone what you are thinking about and make them want to listen to what you have to say. Now I know the way I do things isn’t ideal but the sort of people I attract is perfect for my type or personality. Think about this right now, could you talk about your subject matter for an hour to a complete stranger ? Could you hold a conversation with someone who had never heard of your subject and get them to understand it?

If you have a desire to talk to people about something then no matter how boring something may seem, you can turn them around because your energy and passion is infectious. Ever watched a film you didn’t want to watch or a documentary which the title of bored you to your very soul, however, When you watched it you were captivated and absolutely loved it, that feeling is what you want to transfer to others and it’s easy to do as long as you have a genuine desire to talk about your subject.

  • Fire

I think of this site as a fire, you have to keep feeding it to keep it hot and keep it burning, now the same is for the content. I like to think when I publish a post it will enhance the person reading it, it will either educate or motivate, sometimes both. Either way your content should be red hot to the point it makes people want to get involved and give something back.

If you content is cold it’s the same thing as listening to some science boffin talk in a monotone voice trying to explain quantum mechanices, when actually if you had a super motivated, charismatic boffin explaining it, you would come away with a great deal more information.

Is your content getting cold? Or is it starting to burn white hot? Below is a quick video;

What does everyone think?

James quite nicely said. I cannot agree more with your statement “Cold Content is Dead Content’.

We surely need a lot of fire. Keep it burning.

Agree with you 100% on this one. I do my best to put a little humor or passion into each tone. The good news is I absolutely love writing about the stuff on my site. So I like to think that I come across as having a lot of energy in each article.

Hey Roland thanks brother you’re right though if it’s not exciting or motivating or even educational then there is not point banging it out

it is much more satisfying to read about something someone else loves. If you are boring in blog posts, you are going to earn a shutdown of the window. You don’t even have to say much as long as it is engaging.

If you’re not going to be entertaining and engaging there’s no point; delivery’s really important. :)

Agree with you though, to add to your analogy about lectures; I can remember loving Networking before I got a specific tutor, now every time I need to do something there I groan. Makes a huge difference. ;)

Yeah delivery is important I often think how different it would be if Martin Luther King screwed that line up, doesn’t bear thinking about

James,

Sometimes I get the feeling you’re my distant soulmate from Britain.
I don’t believe you can stress that subject enough. Passion is
it’s really the life energy – the endless fire inside – that makes anything happen in the world. It’s the most powerful force in the universe, but at the same time it’s sadly also the rarest one as well ! You and me, we’re going to change that :)

I think we all experience a time where we find our content cold. This happened to me a few years ago when I was writing about things I really knew nothing about, but I had to since it was part of my job back then. But similar to what you said, getting familiar with your topic enables you to make your articles and posts more interesting, plus if you see the topic’s value, you’d have genuine passion for it.

There is a story I have heard about Martin Luther saying to set yourself on fire and the world will come to watch you burn. I find that I have been more opinionated on my blog lately and I blame you. Actually it doesn’t seem to hurt even if you poke a few sacred cows.

I love talking and I love talking about certain topics and I know a lot of people around me don’t always understand what I say but I find it ok. I’m ok with it because they’re not the type of people who are going after what I am.

On my blog I talk about different things that really interest me and if I learn something new I definitely include it because it excites me. Get in there and make it exciting so that people will want to hear what you have to say.

James,

It’s much easier to read an article writtnen by somebody who has a passion for their subject. Besides it must be very difficult to write about something if you lack passion; why would anybody want to do that.
