I disagree with you Steve. Unless it's somewhere that gets hundreds of comments per post, getting those extra emails is no biggie. Plus it allows you to comment on NEW comments that weren't there when you added your two cents. It helps the conversation grow, and allows you to particapate in all the commenting going on without having to check back a million times to see what everyone is saying.

Both systems have there good and bad sides. I prefer to get all comments, so I can reply to those I find interesting and/or find new people to engage with, blogs to read, etc.

I love comments and I do see the importance of having a community at the end of a post. There is something about a new blog that I find, that has a load of comments on it. That says life to me.

The lively hood of your blog increases when there is a lot of community interaction. One of the things I look for when I find a new blog that helps me determine the credibility of it is the interaction between the readers AND the author.

Great post and thanks for sharing!

While I like to think of my comment section as a mini-forum, I've actually been debating quite a bit about creating a full-fledged forum on my blog for a specific course I'm running. I love to foster communication when possible and believe that creating an even closer community via a forum fosters more communication as well.
