I’m a little with you here Ray and a little with you too Ben. I wouldn’t want to have my whole article for widgets featuring widgets in every couple of sentences, but I think, like lots of things , balance is the key.

For example. My original blog was on Blogger. When it moved and combined with my website a lot of the content was migrated over. Now, there is one article on my old blog (interesting written following the advice from 31 days to build a better blog) called 7 ways to make your email more effective. Now even though new blog has much greater number of visitors the old blog gets a ton of traffic (on that post) from google.

I’m not saying that it’s particularly keyword driven, I’m just saying Google’s search bots seem to love it.

It’s good to see that some of you guys understand how useful keywords are. I think that maybe I didn’t explain what keywords actually are in the article. For anyone who isn’t sure what we’re talking about it’s really quite simple. Keywords are simply the words or phrases people put into the search engines when they are looking for something.

Keywords are very important. I always insert them into my posts where they fit into the flow of my article.

I also agree that guest posting is all about the backlinks, and not the traffic spike you get for a day or two from it.

Hi Ray,
I got ranked number 247,293 for the Keyword “David Risley” once! Other than that I’m ranked number one in Google for the Keyword “Derrick Jetter” of the Yankees and the Keyword “ED Gadget.” Neither one has anything to do with my chosen niche.
As far as the keyword “Blogging” goes, looks like Darren Rowse has that one locked up.

I agree. In fact, learning more about blogging as I have has provided me with even more knowledge about how keywords really work so great. They definitely are the key, as you said.

Ah, keywords. Of course. I know the ones that are important for my business but I have not always woven them into articles. Sometimes they just don’t fit. Need to stay focused. Thanks for the post.

Thanks, Eric. Yeah, it’s funny. I was thinking about how some comments have said that they would rather just write. And I was going along with it, but to be honest, I don’t think it’s really all that hard to use keywords. There isn’t anything mysterious about them. Their just the words people use in the search engines to look something up. Nothing more.

Keywords are the starting and finishing line to being discovered out there where it counts if you want to actually start making money, I think. Everything has its place of course but keywords are a great benefit and where it’s at. Everything else is in the middle actually.

And they’re not hard to find or use if a little effort is put forth each time you write up a great post… That little bit of effort can go a long way over a period of time so it’s definitely worth it.

I’m with you Ben. Does the article/post make any sense? Does is resonate with readers? Does it provide a different insight? If I make the search engines happy but the readers don’t get it, how does this help me?
