This is Olusegun’s second guest post here, I invited him back because of the great reaction he had first time round. Before I hand over to Olusegun, make sure you visit his site after leaving reading and showing your support.
Don’t be surprised. It is a bitter truth and you should seriously thing of changing if you are.
Consistency is a great characteristic and with it you can be sure to remain long in the blogging world. Lack of this virtue is why there are more blogs than bloggers in the actual sense. Many bloggers start and pack up along the line. There are definitely a lot of reasons for this top of which is no ability to keep going.
I started blogging with a free blogger blog in 2006/7(www.thinkandimagine.blogspot.com) and I had no intention of making any money from it initially. This lasted for about 3 years and I was not too crazy about traffic also. I just wanted to write out my thoughts. In retrospect, I think it was a big mistake but I have since learned and moved on.
I was consistent and invested a lot of time mediating and churning out content. After a couple of years, I realized that content is nothing without readers and started notifying my friends and got a trickle of visitors at best. By the time I put up some adsense and started making money, I felt really stupid for not putting it up some years earlier.
Anyway, so much for the past and its ignorant errors. Here is the MAJOR the lesson I learnt:
Consistency alone will not get you anywhere.
They say doing the same thing the same way always and expect a change is the perfect definition of insanity.
So you might be wondering what then are the facts you need to know?
Well, only one thing is needful.
You have to move from being a consistent blogger to being a PROGRESSIVELY CONSISTENT blogger.
Remember that I said earlier that consistency is a great characteristic. If it is what will keep long in the game, progressive consistency is what will make you permanently in the game.
SO HOW DO YOU BECOME A PROGRESSIVELY CONSISTENT BLOGGER?
Simply be progressive. Be creative, do thing that will distinguish you from the crowd and that takes a lot of being yourself.
First of all, all your content must be genuinely adding value. You need to do this as a lot of people go online seeking for written content more than any other sort.
Here is how I intend to become a progressively consistent blogger
- Drive more traffic to my blog by doing more guest posts, commenting more on other blogs and networking like crazy with other bloggers.
- Once I can scale this hurdle, I progress to the list below.
- Do videos (this is a challenge for me at the moment although I just got Camtasia 6)
- Do regular interviews
- Do audio interviews, have it transcribed
- Organize contests
- Organize commenting competitions
At this point though, it is noteworthy (again) that being progressively consistent is most effective if you have a sizeable readership. If not, just stick to the basics – blog commenting, forum commenting, guest blogging, and of course posting quality, valuable content.
Get feedback from your readers and let them tell you what they want to see, then go ahead and give it to them.
In what ways do you try to be a progressively consistent in your blogging?
Cheers,
Olusegun

Interesting. I think it’s important to differentiate between being consistent and not changing what you do.
Change is good, changing consistently is better. Thanks for sharing your views.

Right now I have been releasing a post a day, sometimes two and sometimes less. Due to my real world situation I plan on after I return back home in a few months stepping up my game. I am kind of considering my time right now like the pregame.
So for now I am content on my consistency and learning what I need to from great writers like you and other’s so once I start improving on my consistency I can do it right and minimize error.
Great post bud!

Great Ryan,
My consistency has been fluctuating lately too and I am relocating to another city in less than 3-weeks to a university environment where I grew up – electricity is a major reason for that. This is the fourth straight day without power and I’ve been buying petrol (gas) to power by generating sets.
Thanks for being sincere.
Very good point! I am pretty new to the blogging world, but I am quickly realizing that distinguishing ourselves and keeping it interesting (and being authentic) is what attracts people. Thanks for post

Would another dimension to what you are saying be that you should have consistent character and integrity while constantly trying to improve the quality and communication of your blog?

I don’t know a blogger that can’t benefit from knowing how to be progressive. It’s great to see my inbox full of regular posts from my peers but I love even more when they step it up a notch. I own a number of sites and contribute in many places so there’s no reason why someone like me can’t apply being progressive to each one of those places.

Learning more and doing more is what can make things work well for you.doing things regularly will not get you far unless you’re doing more and better than before.
