I Have Wrote 4 Posts Today, Why Haven’t You?

by theinfopreneur on February 4, 2010

OK everyone knows this site for producing a lot content and there has been some debate as to whether the amount of content is A; sustainable and B; beneficial. I’m the first to admit it’s a lot of work and also freely admit that the way I do things isn’t the way it should be done. It simply doesn’t work for everyone, but for those of you who haven’t tried increasing their posting frequency then give it a go.

  • Meat

Most of the time if you give someone a huge plate of food they will eat more than they need. Granted a lot of people don’t read and contribute to all of the posts I publish on a daily basis but some do. The way I see it is if you post more you are putting on a full 5 course meal, yeah it maybe too rich for some, but what about the people who are really hungry for more?

As I said this method doesn’t work for everyone and some will suffer with burn out, that I concede, but just give it a go for a week or so, give your readers something new to eat.

  • Caffeine

Most of my posts are motivational aimed at bringing in new traffic and readers, but what about if your readers need something extra, a little pick me up. What if they have enjoyed your recent post so much they want more, they become addicted to your content so much that you have to keep giving your readers what they want, give them more, keep it hot and keep it on tap.

Be careful with this one though, you really can’t really on just throwing out content just to keep your site updated, it has to connect with your readers and absolutely has to be true to your site.

  • Reach

Producing more, whether that be on my site on guest posting for others is absolutely key to how this site got here and will be how it continues to grow. Granted by producing more some of your readers physically won’t have time to read everything you produce every day, but on the flip side of that coin, you will grab readers who weren’t necessarily interested in your other post.

Not everything you produce will appeal to the same people every single time, by producing more you increase your catching net and increase the chances of gaining new readers.

Before the comments, I just want to say that my method won’t work for everyone, but it’s clearly working here. One thing I will add to all this, is you have to keep your readers in mind. Keep replying to everything, never ignore your readers and write content you would want to read yourself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR :)

As I said in my last comment, in the process of altering how I do things on my blog. This may or may not include posting an extra day per week; not quite decided that yet.

Course, I don’t think I’ll be upping it to more than once a day every day ;) Enjoy coming by here though I’ll admit.

Yeah I completely agree, you have to have the ideas there to do it, even if it’s 7 times a week once a day, but I agree and re-state it’s not for everyone

I have not written 4 posts today. But I have had days when I wrote 3. It all depends on a couple of things. Some days I just wake up with posting ideas. Other days I have to poke around the internet…read blogs, read news items, that sort of thing until an idea strikes me. As I mentioned on my blog in the past, my muse is not dependable. I really should fire her and hire a new one.

Different people write on different topics. Some of my articles require many hours of work spread over many days.

For example, testing how Google responds to metadata changes, clearly a matter of intense interest to bloggers, requires 1. understanding metadata, 2. understanding how to change it, and 3. waiting for your changes to indexed, caches cleared, and changes displayed.

This requires work spread over at least a couple of days.

I should charge a lot more for some of my articles.

I’ve thought about it quite a bit. My current take is I need to write for another 6 months to a year before I develop the cred to make effective sales doing what I’m doing.

On the other hand, I’m considering going high end whitepapers. For example: “Practical Considerations for Choosing Free CMS Platforms Such As WordPress, Joomla or Drupal.”

But those would be for corporate clients and run a couple of grand.

Not sure yet. We’ll see.

I’ll have product up next Friday or I owe Nathan Hangen $100.

I have personally tried this tactic before and it burnt me out. That said though, I wasn’t writing about things I was truly passionate about.

Oh and by the way, you need to display full posts in RSS feeds! It’s hard for me to read them as 99% of the time I’m on the iPhone.

i loved this & it got me thinking!!!!
I spend a few hours on my posts because i relate it to my experiences and i need to make sure it falls in line with various theories/approaches practiced. i post twice a week although after reading this i would be increasing it to three times because i really have no excuse. i just need to free up some more time hmm!!! may be go the the gym on a saturday morning rather than thursday night lol!!!
I’m not sure if posting everyday will work for me or the readers(although i could be wrong; i’m open to correction please so let me know)
have a lovely day

I personally like how you run the site and you’re right, posting more often may cause some readers not to be able to catch up but other readers might get bored or not even see a post they’d want to read so giving them more, more often might just bring in something for a few more people.

Definitely not for everyone but isn’t this all about experimenting to see what works “best” anyway?

My personal goal is 4 quality posts to be posted Monday through Thursday plus a quick review post on Friday. So far, I’ve kept up with it, but I would like to get to the point where my posts are completed by Sunday night for the following week. I’m not there yet, but I just have to hold myself to a higher standard.

Although I’m very busy with working overtime at my day job and the blogging (and I plan on writing an e-book), I’m purposely trying to avoid working like a dog. Life’s too short.

Now that I have time, my goal is to post on M,W,F and guest post on T,R.

You are posting at break-neck speed and that is clearly working out well for you and your audience. Like you said you are putting out a five course meal and some will over eat and others will pick at their plate. Me I like to take a doggy bag and save some for later. That’s why I have your blog in my feed reader.

Honestly, I think the following is the most important thing to remember and take away from this whole post:

“Before the comments, I just want to say that my method won’t work for everyone, but it’s clearly working here. One thing I will add to all this, is you have to keep your readers in mind. Keep replying to everything, never ignore your readers and write content you would want to read yourself.”

You know what’s awesome? When my site is thriving, you’ll be able to say, “I planted seed for that site to be what it is today.” Seriously!! Remember New Years morning? That series of emails changed how I blog.

I went through so many ebooks and products that were completely amazing! But I wasn’t successful because I always thought I had to blog about money. Which I can’t do… Kudo’s to those who can! But I really can’t.

So the “do it yourself and see what happens” came out in me. Thanks for helping me bro.

Okay one more comment before getting back to ‘real’ work…

Do you find that you get better results with shorter posts (@400 words or less) or longer posts (>800 words). I’ve been pretty good at posting on my new blog for the last month, but some of my posts are at over 1400 words and I’m wondering if I should make them shorter. I’ve heard different viewpoints on this subject.

I don’t think I could write as much as that for one blog/site. I have two sites and I have a bit of a different mindset with each of them.

I am trying for an article a day for Taming Time. Its growing very nicely, much faster than my first one which I dumped content on like crazy (but I think quality suffered).
