Motivate not Alienate

by theinfopreneur on November 7, 2009

A very quick post to talk about the importance of motivating your readers and followers, but don’t alienate them. I write as I speak, very simple, honest and without upsetting anyone (hopefully). Motivation is key to everything you do, If you motivate others and you yourself are motivated, then you will attract positive motivated people.

But

If you talk down to people, treat your readers like they are dumb (which there not, because they have come to read what your saying) then your going to take a nose dive extremely quickly and you may not recover. Alienating people can be quite easy if you write when your not in the right frame of mind. We all have bad days, but if you are having a rough time, chance are its not a good time to post.

Ways of Motivating

  • Success stories with an unlikely result. Richard Branson for example went bankrupt three times before he made it, Simon Cowell lost everything when he was 31 years old, now look at him
  • Personal stories, negative or positive, talk about how you overcame it or what you have learnt
  • Extraordinary stories of courage and strength, doesn’t have to be related to the internet, choose a soldiers story from Afghanistan for example.

motivate

By motivating people, they are more than likely to come back to keep in that frame of mind, they like the way they feel whilst on your site, so keep them happy and they will come back.

I agree. Your attitude comes out with your writing. When you write about positive and motivating stuff you have the best chance of attracting regular readers.

Very good tips. I hope that I’m motivating people when I write a tutorial. I’ve been told that my steps are easy to follow, so I hope I’m doing things right. I guess one thing to keep it mind is that not everyone learns at the same pace.

I enjoyed your post.

Hi Rose,

I think the main thing to remember in all this website eworld we live in, is it’s a lot easier to disagree with someone so it happens more often. I get told I’m wrong all the time, yeah I think about it, but it doesn’t make me stop for even a second, because there are people I know that do like me and the way I write.

Thanks for the support Rose
