How do I become an InfoPreneur?

by theinfopreneur on November 5, 2009

OK so you have read this site and others talking about being a successful InfoPreneur/Blogger, But what if you don’t even have a domain name yet? Where do you start?….. Here is where! I’ll talk you through a step by step process of what to do when your starting from scratch.

  • Decide what your going to write about;

Are you going to write about being an InfoPreneur like I do, Or about the funniest pictures on the web like icanhascheezburger.com, A gamers blog like Kotaku, Or a real life blog like Dooce.com. What ever your passion is whether it be making money or making trouble, make sure you have such a drive to write about it, that it’s bordering on obsession!

  • Decide which platform to use;

Now you have decided what to write about you need to get it out there, but how?…. Well there is no shortage of option, FREE options. WordPress, TypePad, Blogger, LiveJournal, are just four of the most popular ones, a quick google search will produce another 50 easy, but I suggest using one of these to start out. I started on Blogger, then migrated over to wordpress. All are easy to register and it takes minutes and more importantly FREE

  • Whats in a name?

Part of registering with your blogging platform is decided what your going to call it. I decided on my name because Entrepreneur wasn’t available but I wanted a variation of it, and came across InfoPreneur, someone who creates information for the masses and makes money from it. Whether it be a clever twist of a word everyone knows or a made up one, or a combination, what ever you decide on then you need to think about the extension (.com, .net, .co.uk, .org) a stack of .’s you could use, my advice is use .net or .com if its a global audience you want to attract as its the most common, or a localized one if you want to attract mainly people from your country. You should note that by having a localized domain (.co.uk, .com.au) your still going to be able to receive visitors fromĀ  all over the world. I use 123-reg to find out if a domain if free or not, If its not it will throw up some suggestions.

  • Now what?

Write, get to know your site and find your feet with your posts, and your writing style, then…. tell people about it and get them involved!

question

If you have anything you need to know just post it below as someone else is bound to be thinking the same.
